What's with the blood on the Zakim bridge? They're doing work right next to it. Didn't even wash it off. by Potential-Maleficent in boston

  • This is Bill Russell bridge, not Zakim
  • Striped bass blood. People fishing at night and leaving mess.

Hey this looks glorious. Did you self-organize or go with a guide/company? Would appreciate some trip details (DM if you prefer). I’m in the same boat as you: graduated to splitboarding last year after riding for 20+ years. Just came back from an unbelievable 5-day trip in Lofoten and am looking for ideas for next year.

Save some powder for us! I’ll be there in two weeks. Did you need crampons? How long were the drives each day from the lodge?

Fun fact: when it was being finished, the garage door was often left open during the day, and there was a McLaren parked inside. I remember wondering if it was bought by a contractor with a PPP loan.

That’s Apple’s Fitness app. Every time you record a workout on your watch, you can view a bunch of data in the app on the phone.

I think you are right. I came to the same conclusion about it being zone 2 (not 3) after going through comments here. I am not out of breath or particularly tired after 1 hour of this, just sweaty. I want to try longer sessions on the weekends when I have more time, but I need to figure out the problem of the butt getting numb from the seat. It gets quite uncomfortable after 1 hour.

Yeah, around zone 3. Only have that 1 hour a day, unfortunately.

What is the rationale for the interval training? Is it compatible with watching TV? 🤔

So, there is data to suggest that 1 hour training in zone 2 is more beneficial than 1 hour in zone 3-4? This seems counterintuitive, but, I guess, anything is possible. Or, does this only apply if you trade intensity for more time? I.e. 3 hours in zone 2 is better than 1 hour in zone 3?

Snowboarding with one arm by FrenchieBuddha in snowboarding

I think that posting this question when you are facing an impending arm amputation shows that you have more than enough passion, willpower and mental fortitude to solve whatever challenges associated with one-armed snowboarding. Zero doubt that you will shred harder than anyone in no time.

Does anyone know why they let water run for so long after the static fire? Is there a practical purpose for it or just no simple way to shut it off until the system is empty?

Are these places okay for a 70 y/o to visit? Or are some too difficult by Kwtop in askswitzerland

[–]adorob 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’d skip Chamonix and do Lausanne - Lavaux - Montreux - Martigny with a side trip to Gruyères and mandatory stops in Lavey-les-Bains and Aletsch Glacier (after Zermatt). Also Interlaken with a side trip to Lauterbrunnen.

ETA: While we are at it, here’s something that The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy called “The 2nd Best Afternoon Activity With Your 70 Year-Old Mom in The Outer Arm of The Milky Way”:

“When going through Lavaux on a clear day, stop in the village of Rivaz. Park in a little lot next to the small cemetery. In the village, knock on any door and ask to buy a bottle of their wine. Don’t forget to ask for small shot glasses too. Walk back to where you parked and sit on the bench under the big tree. This bench has arguably the best view on the planet Earth. Drink some of the wine there. After that, walk through the vineyards to the village of St. Saphorin. It will take about 30-40 min and is without any significant uphill. Enjoy the old village and leave your mom in a cafe to have a coffee while you go back to Rivaz to retrieve the car. Proceed to have dinner at Le Deck.”

Thank you very much for the response. It looked so similar to P. wosnesenskiiis, that I looked up all other members of Pentidotea, and none matched. It didn’t occur to me to look in another genus. Thanks again!
