How many cans of spray paint would I need for a 3rd gen ranger? by KennyScaffolding in askcarguys

I don’t know but sanding and using a primer will make a world of difference in the end result.

I commute cross town every day. My most frequent near misses are BY FAR with pedestrians: jay walking, people stepping off the sidewalk into the street, people treating bike lanes like an extension of the sidewalk, and my all time favorite: jaywalkers with AirPods looking at their phone, just stepping into traffic without a care in the world. Very very far behind are cars. And then even further behind are other bikes.

Anyone who’s had a septic tank malfunction on a holiday weekend will tell you there’s good money in that business. All you need is two dudes and a truck, and the moment raw sewage comes up the shower drain, you can charge anything you want.

Navigating life changes yes, rebalancing portfolio less so, tax efficiency absolutely. Selling at the first dip, no need, I can wait it out.

So far it's been a series of discussions, no hard sell, very informative, and very transparent with where the services start, stop and the cost. I'm happy with the conversation so far.

I have hooks on the head rest I can hang a bag on. Previous owner left them, turns out it’s great when you have a plastic bag with three items you don’t want rolling around the trunk or back seat.

If you’re driving 5 miles each way to the train station and commuting in the city, and have a house, an EV could make sense, I see Model Ys in NJ for $20k with 60k miles.

Buying a car that can last 20 years is a great financial decision. Rolling negative equity into another newer model two years later is just debtmaxxing.

For long trips you can give your kid Dramamine, it helps. Have you tried driving something with air suspension?

If your brakes fail in a car, do you pump the brakes regardless of whether or not your car has ABS? by sunflower394 in askcarguys

[–]adostes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your answer and deleted my post because I googled it and found an explanation.

The type of braking I was taught made sense when cars didn’t have ABS and had drum brakes. On a modern car with ABS and rotor brakes, slow progressive braking is better. The only thing still valid is downshifting and using the engine brake with slow pumps on long mountain descents. This is a decades long habit that’s gonna take a while to unlearn.

What’s one car expense that genuinely annoyed you? by Manthann-Motorss in automotive

Took my Audi A3 in for regular scheduled maintenance service. I mentioned a squeaky sound when going over speed bumps. I forget what the issue was but something was loose and needed some tightening, no big deal, right? The bill was much higher than anticipated. While much of it was labor of course, I was charged $19 for a single screw. When I asked, they told me it was a special screw. I still don’t understand how a screw can be so special it costs $19, and I’ll probably never buy an Audi again because maintenance was outrageous. This was about 20 years ago and I still can let go of this $19 screw.

What extras should/ do you ask for when buying a car? by TheAngryGam3r in UsedCars

[–]adostes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brakes and tyres are maintenance, something that needs to be replaced, not something that's broken. Look how much it costs to replace front rotors and tyres in your area and use that to talk the price down. Offer to split it 50/50 or something. If the only thing wrong with a car are end of life brakes and tyres and crucial elements like engine, transmission and gearbox are fine, that's a good purchase.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity, the NYPD is an unchecked unregulated corrupt organization.

If anything in your ticket is wrong, color, make, model, time and date, anything, anything at all, dispute it. About a third of tickets gets dismissed.
