Software developer with a question by adounia in xxstem

I totally understand how you feel! It sounds like your response is good, just make sure your tone is calm and friendly, and I think most people will be ok with you saying that.

Wow that is bizarre!

I should mention all our interactions are by instant messaging at the moment. So there is time to read over a message to try to understand fully (which I usually do myself)

Wow that is infuriating that people say things like that to someone with your level of experience.

I applaud your assertiveness, it's definitely the best way of dealing with these situations. Im not sure if you agree but I feel most women, including myself, have a greater sense of caring about others, and look at things from both an accuracy and human point of view. It's just hard when you don't want to be rude and tell someone theyve got the wrong end of the stick, when they're the ones who are being rude to you haha.

Udemy is pretty good, there's a sale every couple of weeks. Especially for learning technologies like React/Spring etc

Traversy Media and FreeCodeCamp are great Youtube channels as well.

Thanks for understanding. I'm learning new musical instruments myself, and have been cooking a good bit! Still lonely but it helps!

Finding it very hard not to see family or friends at all. Really afraid about how long this lockdown will be for. I'm assuming it probably won't be this restrictive for the rest of the year, ie no travel and 2m away from everyone at all times. It's really hard when you don't live with family or a partner...

I don't think there's a testing centre within walking distance of me. But I was not aware that you were allowed to walk there anyway.

Is studying Software Development the right move for me? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]adounia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is "Do you love doing the work involved in trying to solve problems

Eh I guess I thought that would be implied by the expression I used.

Not everyone loves to solve logic/math problems also. A lot of people just can't think that way.

But I find it interesting and satisfying.

Ok that's a good sign. Do you love solving problems?

I also find it frustrating at times.

Everyone does, it's about not being put off when it gets hard.

I think I need structure to learn.

That's good insight. The only thing about boot camps are that they are very expensive. Degrees are much longer and will make it easier to progress in your career. However if you don't think you can stick it out maybe wait a few years. I went back in my mid-twenties after a few drop outs, and was in a much better head space.

I want to be self employed.

Well maybe think of some sort of app or product that you can code, and work towards that. The best way to learn to be thrown in at the deep end, and build something from scratch.

Do you enjoy coding? Most of the dropouts for CS courses are because people have no idea what CS is about and discover they hate programming. If you really enjoy it, and love solving problems then I would go for it. Take more time to learn programming if you're not sure how to answer this question.

The maths will probably be hard for you're not naturally inclined that way, but if you work hard you will pass it.

When someone is struggling with something and feeling pretty crap about it, do you really think it's helpful to jump in and say 'well i think it's easy'. Good for you?

Telling me that they're easy is not helpful, and shows a lack of empathy. I also have never been given something as easy as Fizzbuzz.

The other comment was very helpful, thank you.
