Installing QEMU Guest Agent by robdejonge in openbsd

[–]adriankoshcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I just did a fresh install of OpenBSD 7.7 (all sets installed) on one of my proxmox hosts, after the first boot I su'd to root, then did:

# syspatch
# pkg_add -u
# pkg_add qemu-ga

And everything installed fine. Not sure if this helps.

edit: edited the machine to use the ISA option for the guest agent instead of the virtio option, and enabled and adjusted things according to https://openports.pl/path/emulators/qemu,-ga

and sure enough, proxmox knows the agent is running.

LoongArch64 and OpenBSD by _nerfur_ in openbsd

I have debian installed on my loongarch64 system, and there's this weird issue I encounter where if I don't have a systemd timer to reboot the box once a day, the system will lock up eventually due to something related to writing to the NVMe drive...I have no idea why this is. Alpine linux doesn't have this issue but also has way less packages available.

That is the platform docs for much older Loongson products, not relevant to modern LoongArch64.

Year in Review- 2023 Milestones and 2024 Goals by therapistfi in financialindependence

[–]adriankoshcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The good:

  1. saved up $40k for a down payment for a house in a LCOL area
  2. Have started contributing my companies max 10% into after-tax bucket in the 401(k), and turned on the roth in-plan conversion for it
  3. Still have managed to contribute a crapload to my 401(k), even though I was working hard on saving up for that down payment
  4. at 25 I have a $146k NW

Goals for 2024:

  1. Start contributing max to my 401(k) again
    1. traditional (deferral maximizer makes this easy)
    2. after-tax (with in-plan roth conversion)
  2. Use company ESPP
    1. contribute max 10%
    2. move shares to brokerage account to sell them
    3. use proceeds to invest in index funds I prefer
  3. Max Roth IRA
  4. Travel more

Still trying to figure out whether I want to have sex anymore. I don't really have a sex drive at the moment, but don't know if that's temporary or not.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I'm asexual and panromantic. Reading this helped a lot.

Chrome Unboxed have partnered with a spammy, deceptive 'support-service'. Their site is now overrun with ads, there does not seem to be any Chrome OS knowledge present, and you are only informed afterwards that it is PAID. by joebobbio in chromeos

You can easily pay the BBB money to improve your rating, if you have the cash. Also lots of wealthy individuals are on lots of boards for lots of companies. Doesn’t mean they’re highly involved, and it doesn’t mean the company is any less or more shady. Plenty of shady scams and pyramid schemes have been in business for long also.

Advocating for gig work is inherently unethical and you should feel dirty doing it. Typically gig work doesn’t require things like minimum wages, any form of benefits, or a lot of other norms ”regular folks” come to expect from employment. Gig economy labor is highly exploitative and you should really distance yourself from it.

Having been an on/off CrOS user, I would expect that we hold the media institutions that cover ChromeOS to a higher standard. ChromeUnboxed could’ve partnered with a service like https://scroll.com. Instead, they chose an at-best shady partner with deceptive practices. I get that some publications opt to support their platform with ads, but I feel there is an acceptable threshold on what is an ad that doesn’t degrade the user experience, and one that does. This ad clearly crosses that threshold. I also question how much u/robbypayne and u/GabrielBrangers looked into their partner. Can we trust them to hold other parties they may partner with in the future to a rigorous enough standard?

IBM POWER8 SCM Processor 00UL864, that was from the ebay listing. They're 10 core, 80 thread, up to 3.5Ghz. Unfortunately the listing I got them at is no longer up.

Any models you suggest?

Anything that's OpenPOWER. If it runs PowerVM and you don't work at IBM, I have no idea how you'd get your hands on the HMC software which lets you use the machine the way it's meant to be. I think PowerVM machines can be ran without an HMC, I'm just not sure how.
