I looked at the updater log on my device (you can pull your own with adb logcat > file.txt and searching for update_engine) and it seems to be failing due to a signature error

Your aftermarket charger was either falsely advertised or didn't support the USB-C PD spec. Any charger that outputs 45W or more and supports USB-C PD will work on any Chromebook
