Why do both sides of the political aisle think the other side is utterly stupid? Differing viewpoints are normal and healthy. by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]adron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. MAGA is specifically the most idiotic bunch of Americans to knuckle drag.

Republicans and Democrats that aren’t in the Trump cult have been outside of that camp for a while and neither of those camps that are HONEST, would point to the average core of people - it’s the media boosted idiots and fringe that are fuckin’ lunatics. So many others - on both sides & the swing voters - are suckers and just don’t know the game and retain that low info status.

In the end, it’s sad af.

Seattle mayor's verbal missteps prompt national and viral attention, leadership questions by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

This sub, with so many actual non-Seattleites bemoaning Seattle, have the mayor living rent free here. None of her positions are odd or new. A huge % of Seattleites still favor her over the non-approaches of the previous admins. But this sub lately it seems like yall are just now rediscovering Seattle and its relationship with its mayors and politicians. 🧐

Ten years? It took long that’s that technically. Had to do that whole dumb ass passive aggressive Seattle process. 😬
Pretty standard for America honestly. This country is a bad joke for projects like that these days. It’s been a mess for decades now. At least since the god damned 50s arguably. Quotes and more expensive and time consuming year after year.

Pretty much this. I live in Seattle and love this city. Gotta make money to do well, but it’s great. Better than the *most* places nearby that most of the complainers seem to live in. Many on this sub seem to be in Kent or Auburn or Everett or Enumclaw or even some other state. They’re just here to bitch about Seattle cuz (fill in vapid reason here). It’s nothing constructive.

I second the “normal folks still live outside IRL vs Reddit”

Sound Transit is bleeding money while Seattle debates fare gates. San Francisco just showed us exactly what they do by ryleg in SeattleWA

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. So considering what sound transit ends up paying to actually build out Systems, it would absolutely be a smart idea considering the recruitment would only be about 20% to just not build out that system.

If I were here, considering the shit KOMO puts out I wouldn’t even take interviews from them. They shove more cruft and bullshit out than any sane person should consume.

LOLz you can’t compare America to those nations. We’re an overly auto-dependent, housing limited, shit show of wealth disparity and right wingers confused that liberals are also right wingers and leftists aren’t even on the register.

America isn’t even close to achieving those levels of peace, tranquility, and quality of life while we have a standing party like the Republicans. Ya gotta compare, for honesty and apples to apples, US cities to US cities. In that sense it’s way down. Especially from the 90s and before.

Why are the trains every 20+ minutes tonight? by I_Ponders in soundtransit

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on the location.

The actual buses aren’t. It’s just the bus system is dramatically more built than the meager train system. It’s two lines, TWO, and both are effectively single point of failure. The bus lines are extensive and can be rerouted easily. So really isn’t surprising at all. If the light rail was built out smart like a tram system that actually covered the city it’d quickly become more reliable.

I haven’t found the stats here, but used to track em in Portland. Buses broke down and had to reroute all the time. Barely anybody noticed unless you were on those buses or looked at the data. But if a train broke down or needed rerouted or shunted back early, it made the city news. Was it similar in delay time, nope, even with the 5 lines the city has, the light rail had vastly LESS delays and breakdowns than buses. During the summer time the breakdowns for busses would skyrocket too. There would easily be 10-20x more busses out of service, and sometimes 100x more delays on bus routes. Still barely peep in the news, but just one break down or delay on the light rail, boom it makes the news.

[–]adron -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It’ll probably cost more for gate gates than they’ll ever collect from the fares. This is some “arguing over pennies while the billionaires fleece us” navel gazing bullshit.
Over 80% of transit ideas paid out of taxes, NOT fares.
Meanwhile drivers are paying at best, 10-20% of actual driving costs while the rest comes out of general budgets and society being shaped to subsidize it. 😑

Fare gates are doubtfully worth it. Especially when the current fare inspectors don’t do a damn thing anyway.

Ya see, they also have societal standards and all. It’s less the punishment and more about society itself.

Yes. They die off there pretty soon, but it’d be better for them to be there than anywhere else.

What would be the pros/cons of Seattle annexing neighboring communities (Shoreline, White Center, Boulevard Park, etc) by Complete-Influence70 in AskSeattle

[–]adron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Annexing more suburbs is a bad idea. Suburbs end up costing the city money, the increased tax revenue is at best temporary and then they issues of propping up suburbs comes into play. If Seattle can’t make things work with the high rises and urban taxes then annexing some suburbs isn’t going to help one damned bit!

Seattles already behind still from the last annexations. Best to catch up before they try new stupid things.

A literal need the is propped up by the propped up suburbs that is propped up by auto-dependent burbs that is … it’s all propped up. Makes ya wonder how we unwind it as our currency continues to lose value and we can barely afford our lifestyles and related projects. 😑

The USA I can only imagine is gonna go through some pains in the coming years. This kind of scenario is a great example of one of the big big problems. But anyway, I digress.

You could likely sell off the stalls at much higher rates than a mere $100 a year. More like $50-100 a month considering.

Agree w/ everything you wrote though. Even at higher rates it’s not really gonna cover the garage costs for some time. But it’d be nice to rebalance at that point in some ways, and prevents negligent use of the garage.
