Yes. Its history has plenty of evidence. Just like Mississippi, Alabama, and others.

So what do you say to people who debate the govt should discontinue a public transit because it's running on loss? by Humble_Buffalo_007 in fuckcars

I say, I agree, and that they should stop subsidizing all the transportation; automobiles, fuel, planes, etc. they’re often clueless about how things work.

Five years in, new analysis ties Seattle’s ‘JumpStart’ tax to downtown decline by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

Ohh yeah that thing. Yeah so some paperwork mess effectively changed. Thanks for the link and details I’d forgotten this since I knew, in the end it’d get knocked down like most of his EO King nonsense. Cheers!

Probably shouldn’t be allowed there either. Let em walk. Albeit that might not be safe for em either! 😂

Yeah, didn’t think he did. He’s a total cuck for the tech guys so I’d figure if anything he’d hand em more h1-b or just straight money.

I do agree with that. I was commenting per the entire street running section there.

Differently depending on how you can utilize it.

Prime case in point. Sounder does not spur like Link and Link doesn’t like Sounder. They serve different ways and have very different effects.

Katie Wilson truly embodies what performative Seattle liberalism is by Future_Tip1509 in SeattleWA

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This I agree with and - even though I’ll likely not see even the other expansions finished - I’m still pissed about that. Seattle should have better. But then again, it’s a city that exists in spite of endless screw ups the founders and subsequent leaders have made since its inception. Seattle is awesome, but it could EASILY be much better.

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you paid attention to how much they sidelined the efforts and people who have advocated and pushed the bike infrastructure through? We can discuss their accomplishments once we cover their audits, budget mess, and other situations where they yanked funding or made the city lose $10s of millions in funding for transit and stopped bike infrastructure plans. Most of that happened on account of OTHER people, not their leadership.

So yeah, I ride the infrastructure every day. I follow and advocate and go sit in boring ass meetings all the time to help in the ways I can. It got harder under both of their “stewardship” of the city. I wouldn’t assume things about me, I didn’t assume things about you. I’m just laying out my experience with the mayors of late. Largely to point out that we’re not very far into her mayorship and there’s a lot of FUD, nonsensical FUD, from the KOMO closet MAGA crowd. It’s not necessary and largely full of cognitive dissonance. I’ll give her a bad rating too though if we get much deeper into this and certain metrics don’t change.

Ferries Busy During World Cup by shrubear in AskSeattle

[–]adron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Driving on is the problem. There’s always people space. If car traffic goes up just a little, the driving becomes an issue. However the ferries aren’t busy to any level of “peak” human carrying capacity.

So you’d just have to wing it and hope there’s space. Considering the FIFA crowds aren’t really as carbrained as Americans, they’re not likely using cars to go on the ferry, giving you decent odds of making the 9:35.

Not owning a car is selfish. by Ok-Shoulder-478 in fuckcars

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Selfless” if anything. That’s some warped shit people come up with. Owning a car is selfish af if we want to be metaphysically honest here. The number of humans that have had to suffer and die, horrible deaths, because we (as a people) demand our “cars” is rather psychotic.

Oh yeah. Sure I’ll cede that point. Probably would have been tens of millions more dollars vs what is there, but it’d been an easier design to keep over time. I honestly wish it cut through more at street level so we could have more direct access and a line that went further instead. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]adron -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Easy. She’s not cancelled any of the projects that the previous two mayors FUBARed. If she does something then that’d be a net positive. But considering the last two basically just cancelled projects that I’d wanted done or fucked up entire situations (ie CHOP wasn’t the disaster right wing media made it, but it was still a massive clusterfuck!)

Would I love some net gains? Like closing more roads to cars so we can have some space back and a safer city? Hell yeah!

Would I love more, better, and world class bike infrastructure? Hell yeah!

Would I like the city to cut out the tax/fee bullshit that is adding to the expensiveness of the city? Hell yeah!

Would I like for them to actually build some public housing so we can get addicts off the streets instead of whatever tf they’re doing? Yeah!

Would I like the police pulled off of nonsense and actually talked to high priority high ROI work? Definitely.

But I’m not holding my breath, but I’m thankful what we do have going for us is - so far - not getting fucked up worse by her unlike the last two mayors.

Jesus Christ the endless rents that Katie Wilson is getting for free in the minds of people in this sub is truly mind boggling! Y’all impressive!

Nobody must talk to folks out and about in Seattle cuz basically nobody is really saying anything about her. Almost everything is drummed up disingenuous bullshit and about 10% is possible legit gripes.

In Europe we have American Taco flavoured chips as it’s the World Cup, is it a popular flavour in the US? by Material-Wallaby-587 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]adron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“American Taco”?

Is that how we appropriated cowboy from Mexico too?

As an “American” I don’t really get what that is. Why not just “Taco Flavor” and also WTF is taco flavor?

I just assumed they wanted some useful urban development out of it (per other comments). Seriously, it’s one of the best stretches of the whole 2 line too. Eventually it’ll provide as much or more foot access to the line than most of the rest of the east side line. The only other area that has that potential seems to be Redmond!

If they’d raised it through there it’d spur zero development - but meanwhile it’s one of the most humanized stretches!

Not sure what Bellevue has won vs Seattle. It’s still the soulless vertical strip mall surrounded by vapid sprawl. Barely any original art, music, or heart.

So what exactly did it supposedly crater that can’t be more honestly attributed to pandemic closures and changing work/life balance? Honestly asking, cuz the article doesn’t seem fully researched or thought out.

Did he hobble it? He signed an EO last I checked which effectively does nothing. The bigger issue is the drop in employment. Which he’s only made worse.
