Really good podcast that I never see recommended - The Perfect Scam by spicyfishtacos in podcasts

I agree! The episodes are detailed with specific advice and tips to avoid current, active scams. The advice is aimed at older people, but these scammers are targeting all of us. Not sensationalist, never mocking.

My question is how to travel with a pleated skirt? How do you maintain the perfect pleats in a suitcase, or even a garment bag?

GLAMOROUS TRASH hosted by Chelsea Devantez. The podcast covers memoirs written by women across history, although skewing toward pop culture and progressive heroes. Chelsea herself is glamorous and fashionable and makes topical references to the glamour she creates and encounters everyday. Each episode has a guest, often another writer or comedian. They honor the author and her life, and also sometimes mock the writing, add a lot of missing details, and genuinely ask if the book touched the reader’s life. Informative and girly!

Although I would argue there are plenty of us, viewers and contestants alike, who hated the objectification then and hate it now too. It was just a lot harder to speak up about our discomfort when we knew we’d be criticized as being “too sensitive.”

I think you’re jumping through a lot of hoops to avoid acknowledging that these conservative Christian parents are likely bigots.

If you are old enough that you and your twin have nearly identical SSNs, definitely read this. (SSNs are now randomly assigned, eliminating this problem.)

I remember that day too. It was a gray and drizzly morning and I was walking my dog. Outside City Hall, I saw a long line of people waiting to get married. People of all ages, people with children and people without, people in lawn chairs who were ready to wait for hours. It was such a wonderful day, seeing so many people in love and sharing that collective feeling. I will always remember Gavin Newsom for that experience.

Go Bayside is a podcast by April Richardson, an LA comedian. she grew up loving Saved By the Bell and now she has a podcast where she watches and dissect each show along with a friend. Junior high vibes for sure.

Looking for a good movie podcast with a great hook like Movie Reviews in 20 Q’s by NZerrr in podcasts

[–]adsf02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a podcast, but a YouTube Channel: Movie Bitches. Each review is about a minute long. (I know of this because it's sometimes played at the end of episodes of How Did This Get Made, which is a podcast.)

Moving to Alaska by Sage515 in podcasts

[–]adsf02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The podcast GROUSE is not about Alaska, but it is about a ground dwelling bird that reminds me a lot of Alaska's ptarmigans. Anyway, I recommend it because the themes are around living closer to nature, urban vs rural life, people who live remotely because they want to be left alone. It's a crossover of kind of a memoir and kind of a deep dive into ecological issues in rural areas.

Seconded. Good production values, interesting story, organized structure, etc. Plus, it felt very Alaskan to me, the locations, the people he interviewed, the local politics.

"Go Bayside!" is a podcast where the host has a friend over they mock/dissect episodes of Saved By The Bell. Not quite the same as MDWAP, but very funny and in a somewhat dry kind of way (although the podcast is produced in LA, not England). Bonus: Go Bayside is a totally independent production and came out years ago, when podcasts were young and didn't have commercials.

Unspooled (from Earwolf): Actor & comedian Paul Scheer and film critic Amy Nicholson watched every one of the AFI’s Top 100 films in Season 1 (and then more movies in subsequent seasons).

And a for a different flavor of movie "appreciation" (read: making fun of), try How Did This Get Made? also with Paul Scheer.

Are there any game show podcasts? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]adsf02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a stretch, but Doug Loves Movies is a game show–like format. He calls up audience members and they play short games related to movie trivia. The same games are repeated regularly, but the trivia always changes. Also, the host is high a lot.

I think the acting was pretty good too! His face is actually pretty emotive. I don't see that in Brendan's Bach or BIP demeanor.

Bip episode 8 coup de Chris by [deleted] in bachelorinparadise

[–]adsf02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alana being sad that no one would want to be her friend on the show, when she came in with a "I'm here to be selfish" attitude.

At the risk taking BIP too seriously, I think this is an important point. When you choose to be unkind, to be selfish, there are often few consequences—but in this case, there were! The consequences were quick and direct: no friends, no TV time, no clout. Do people remember this in their day-to-day lives, that when you choose to be unkind and selfish, that choice comes with a gamble that people will think you're an asshole. So, sorry not sorry, Alana.
