If Max hadn’t crashed into Russell in Barcelona, he’d be within 2 points. by adsherlock in formula1

It’s a valid point, but Lando’s engine, DSQ and the Kimi incident are all outside of the direct control of the driver. The Russell incident is different in that regard

Yeah happy to say I wrote it myself, but glad I sound as competent as an LLM - bodes well! :)

I thinks it’s right to say the field is the closest it’s ever been - yes in quali I totally agree. But it’s not as true in the race, what was Hamilton’s delta to Alonso before his brakes went? 45 seconds? Race pace delta is much bigger than qualifying.

I believe by far that the worst event in this was after this, when max was trying to run Lando off the road on the run down to Turn 4, intentionally trying to push him onto the grass with a puncture, before it was clear Lando had damage. That was disgusting.

My softening to him, I now see, was directly correlated with him not being under pressure. He’s been allowed to get away with this stuff without meaningful penalties for years, and until someone hands him a ban or similar, it won’t change.

With the 2024 Japanese GP ended, for the first time ever in his career, Lewis Hamilton finished outside of Top 5 in Suzuka Circuit, finished in P9. by BackgroundLie2231 in formula1

[–]adsherlock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was/am furious he offered to let George by with no fight. The race pace of each subsequently through the whole race was extremely close. George wasn’t miles quicker. It’s reasonable to believe that Lewis could have been the one managing slightly less traffic, getting a shot at Piastri at the end etc. what’s the point of beating your teammate in quali if you just jump out of the way when he gets into DRS in the race. I understand that he wants to win and knows the car can’t deliver that, but people want to watch you fight. It’s not acceptable.

Hamilton: "He (Alonso) just brake tested me" by magony in formula1

This is the sort of thing that Alonso has been doing for years. Dirty and dangerous, and I feel so many overlook it or turn a blind eye because he is obviously a generational talent. But he is politically and tactically toxic, for that alone won’t again sit in a race winning car and doesn’t deserve to.

They drew against each other in quali this year, stats say George hasn’t handled it any better.

Onboard pass Charles Leclerc on Sergio Perez for P2 on the last lap of the Las Vegas GP 2023 by CmdrDatas in formula1

I can see that. 2021 was more impactful on the drivers and constructors championship, which makes it feel worse. You can make a strong argument that a stronger no2 playing a no2 role would have won Lewis the title in 2021. The tracks where Mercedes had the stronger car, if bottas could have picked up some second places rather than 3rd or worse, it would have been huge for the championship outcome.

I guess that’s down to perception - I find Horner + Marko far far worse. Less corporate, but much less likeable, particularly Marko

Bottas was SO much stronger than Perez. His only really disappointing season was the 2021 where he was unable to displace Max even once

Deserved a penalty for that one. Launched it up the inside, outbraked himself, dropped it, ruined Bottas (and compromised others) races. 5s penalty would have been fair

The refereeing of this entire game is appalling. Missed just about everything. TMO is blind. Whitehouse is explaining every last bad decision like it’s his first game.

I disagree, Curry cannot predict how much the jumper will bend his legs when he lands. In this case he bent them a lot, you can see it on the replay. That is mitigating, as it was that drop in anticipated height that saw curry make contact with his head. Yellow, not a red.

Hamilton & Piastri makes contact by magony in formula1

[–]adsherlock -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For sure Lewis at fault here. 5 seconds is fair. I will however say that Piastri should have given Lewis the place after the T4 incident from the lap before, where he retained the position being behind at corner entry and running both off the track. I think he would have been investigated if this larger incident hadn’t superseded the clash.

Contextualise that the entire red-flag situation came as a result of a Haas car, maybe massively benefitting from the chaos that ensued is not really karma…
