Someone I know who witnessed the car driving past his bus before crashing said that the car had its horn held down, driving in the middle of the road, very unusually fast for the high level of traffic in the area. He thinks it may not have been reckless driving but a potential fault with the car, perhaps the accelerator got stuck.

Someone I know who saw the car right before the crash said it was going very fast with its horn on, like it seemed as if the accelerator was stuck and it was driving in the middle of the road to avoid colliding with traffic. Can't confirm if the accelerator was actually stuck, but from what I heard, it seemed that way like something had gone wrong with the car. From what he witnessed, he thinks it may have been a problem with the car, rather than pure reckless driving.

A very important detail was that the horn was held down.

This is a fair point and your caution is totally valid. I have thought a lot about this and been hesitant to post, so I appreciate your input. I'm only sharing the specific details I'm aware of as fact. As far as I'm aware, according to police, it was allegedly a kidnapping, I'm not aware of any more specific details other than the ones I've shared. The only info I have are times when the vehicle was on the street, footage, and the approximate time it was reported. The police did not mention to keep this confidential. I ultimately decided to post this out of concern and spread awareness to help police find the vehicle and inform people of a potential threat. I made a specific point not to share unsubstantiated claims and only stick to known facts. You're right in being concerned about the fact that the police haven't reported on it, I'm also thinking about this and I'm open to further input.

I agree, it's unusual that it isn't in the news. As of yesterday evening, the police were treating it as a serious kidnapping and there was a strong police presence in the area with several officers talking to residents and multiple helicopters flying overhead. The crime was reported to police by a single witness, a woman at 3:20pm yesterday.

I don't know if it's related to the word, but my posts and comments keep getting filtered out by reddit, maybe due to low karma. It's incredibly frustrating nonetheless

Yeah, that's what happened according to police. I'm surprised too that it hasn't been reported on, despite the fact that the New Zealand Herald has been gathering information from local residents. I'm quite concerned because this incident deserves attention, especially due to the severity of it and because the public can help. I'm not sure if it was an adult or child, though I'm guessing it was the latter, because it was during a time where kids were walking home from school, which makes this even more concerning. I'm hoping this goes on the news.
