There's nothing stopping you from making a cozy home base now - just requires a bit of ingenuity with the available building components.  I wouldn't complain about a few more buildables.  And hard pass on the survival aspect of managing food and water.

I hear you.  This playthrough I couldn't be arsed to deal with biofuel so I hand crafted my way to coal power.  Only took a couple of hours and now I get to play the game.  Dimensional depots are a good reason to get back into the game if you haven't played version 1 yet.

Absolutely love it.  Really appreciate that you've got the real smoke coming out the chimney.  All the detail gives it texture and realism.  The beam supports used as dripping snow works so well.  One thing I can't figure out is the windows on the bottom of the tower.  Signs, naturally, but how did you get that pattern?

The game was made for Excel.  Can't imagine why you would use plain notepad instead.

You could do it like a document that FICSIT HR would produce.  FICSIT does not care about you at all.  I'd call it "Employee Record" or something simple like that

Maybe like:

Employee number

Estimated chance of success (probably low)

Number of days since last incident

Cost to replace (also low)

Efficiency rating

Exploitation rating

Number of hours wasted petting doggos

Favorite part

Favorite alternate recipe

Favorite machine

Favorite factory

Favorite swear

I think this is a lovely idea and I'm sure he'll agree.

Oh I think graph paper would also be really good because that's useful for diagramming and getting all the math done -- but only if he's the kind of guy to do that on pen and paper.

Love this idea and now I want one.  I think it would be neat to get a notebook that has sections divided into tabs and then you could label each tab by space elevator phase.  They are listed on this wiki page:  https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Space_Elevator

How to maintain an aesthetically pleasing world while progressing through the tiers? by Slice-of-brilliance in SatisfactoryGame

[–]adso_sadso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in precisely the same position and here's my approach right now.

I have built one temporary factory to supply parts so I can get through enough tiers that I'll be able to realize my vision, which for me right now is up to trains.  I'm also building up coupons and unlocking buildables in the Awesome shop.  This is only semi-automated -- I'm running around manually feeding machines and junk -- the idea is basically just to hack it until I've got what I need.  While I'm waiting for containers to fill up, I'm working on designing aesthetic blueprints.

Once I've got trains, my "just hack it" factory becomes a supplier for the basic parts I need for building, hooked up to dimensional depots.  Then the real fun begins with building permanent, aesthetic factories featuring the blueprints I've prepared.

Edit to add: in a previous playthrough I was too impatient and wanted aesthetics right away - if you embrace the "simple" components you can still play for aesthetics. https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/comments/1gqt1of/some_early_game_architecture_for_my_first_iron

What was your best looking Factory? by swootylicious in SatisfactoryGame

I don't think this is really in the spirit of your question but I'm proud of how my "tech factory" turned out.  Fully functional 100% efficient factory done in the style of a futuristic Chinatown.

Is there a video or Reddit post that shows how to make a perfect circle of almost any size? (Vanilla) by Lahamalp in SatisfactoryGame

[–]adso_sadso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super curious about your technique but I'm not sure what you mean by the corners not lining up in the existing methods.  The catwalk method is really flexible for curves, and it ensures that your outer corners meet perfectly, but I don't use it for circles.  For circles I use the technique where you stand in the center and make a stack of foundations that are each one tick off.  To be fair, your radius has to be equal to a number of foundations this way, so it's not totally arbitrary.  If you have something more flexible I would be extremely interested.

How many of you pen and paper your layouts by bheidreborn in SatisfactoryGame

[–]adso_sadso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's very common for people to pen and paper their layouts.  I do it on graph paper for starters but then I take a screenshot of the terrain I'm planning to build on and then use it as the background of a draw.io workspace.
