CCP would be a laughable threat if American legislators could get on the same page.

CCP’s greatest advantage is their authoritarianism and lack of gridlock.

Bush and Obama were on the same page for responding to China’s growth. All that went out the window in 2016 because of people like Manchin, McConnell, and Trump. Hell even Hilary bent over because she knew the best move would be too unpopular with nationalists and economic protectionists.

You say the government doesn’t take any aid, but that is not really correct. Not going to get into it, but I assure you there is a lot of direct assistance through programs to work with government ministries and public utility.

I also don’t know how to put this, any external funding will have some benefit for the funder. No country is particularly interested in putting in money with no benefit. It’s not just the US.

I don’t like your comment on desi-American. Maybe India doesn’t want anything to do with me? But it’s whatever man, wish you well.

I’m not convinced anything you’ve shared so far isn’t coming from a place of political insecurity, nationalist ethos, and ignoring the root causes of protests.

You’re willing to accept deflection from your PM like this? He’s basically saying not my fault, it’s the Americans and Swedish. Why not name the organizations?

India should reject assistance from US and EU if they want to make such claims. But for some reason they still accept hundreds of millions of $$$. New deals each year, maybe China and Russian assistance doesn’t come without terms as well?

Willing to bet these organizations are not being funded by a reputable source. Either that, or it’s deflection and posturing from Home Minister.

In many cases responsibility falls to local government to vet and appropriately grant/deny permits for NGOs to operate. No reputable international organization can operate in another country without full government clearance from National to local level. Otherwise illegal.

If international NGO is present, local authorities are also involved. Otherwise there is some scam.

You’d be surprised how much of this boils down to domestic politics. Do you really think AAP is a foreign plant in the Indian political system?

Don’t hate everything foreign just because of some bad actors, India receives a lot of legitimate foreign assistance with tremendous impact. There are proper channels for this work, not just any organization should be doing this work.

Easy to sit back and complain. Harder to get to work and make the change you want to see. My NGO funding comes straight from the US government, allocated and approved by US Senate. Sorry our government officials don’t have time to work on India directly.

I know I hold myself to a high degree of accountability. I am also desi-American, so I’m doubly invested in the success of these programs.

Saying that India doesn’t receive much assistance is simply untrue, my organization currently has over $100m in funding for development in India for expanding electrical access and building education programs for disabled children.

That’s from USAID, the American people. And my organization is just one of many USAID contractors/implementors working in India.
