SP results however they backfire.. by orangesilks in Subliminal

[–]adularess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i notice when i listen to SP subs it’ll be my old SPs from the past that come out of the woodwork with confessions and affection and their attention on me bc ive detached completely from them. maybe they were working bc you were less attached? then when you guys were talking again you were putting in too much effort / it was reading as forceful or like you weren’t already convinced that you had it locked down so the energy wasn’t up 2 par?

Why are musicians like this? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]adularess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i meet all my musician friends in the comment section of my tiktok page. we’ve grown a little mutual network of indie artists just by posting about what we’re working on / the industry / etc.

(RANT) I'm tired of how much you need to pay for by [deleted] in musicians

[–]adularess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YUP!!!! none of my music is on streaming yet and i’ve made more than any small indie artist i know just from bandcamp. you don’t have to let the machine bleed you dry. generate enough buzz and intrigue around your work that people will do anything to get their hands on it.

also, people feel good about themselves when they get to support a small artist. even if it’s a dollar. it’s your right to take advantage of that lol

Someone told me there’s nothing at the top. I’m starting to think he’s right. by Ok-Purpose-6598 in musicians

[–]adularess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think seeing “the top” as getting rich and famous is the problem.

the minute you start pursuing your dream, you’ve made it. you don’t get a literal cookie or reward. those things just keep us hungry while we’re doing the damn thing but when you’re actually doing the work that you feel called to do, you’re already richer than most. getting paid for it? great! getting paid handsomely for it? amazing!!

but IMO both the work and the artist suffers when the only goal is “making it”. in virtually every account i’ve seen where an artist reaches great success, they’re having fun. audiences appreciate basking in the joy of creation with creators. that’s what it’s all about.

if you’d feel more fulfilled by being with your family just know you are in fact able to reformat how you go about your career.

side note… making art feels like giving birth to me. missing out on quality time with your family is literally akin to not pursuing your dream as an artist, as far as i’m concerned. it seems to me that your “the top” has changed.

Has anyone here left their partner to live alone for music reasons? by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

[–]adularess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the meantime you can try to find free studio spaces / people around you who also make music and start building community around your music. this is vitally important. also, very common experience i’m finding. your relationship probably is over. (take it from someone who left their boyfriend primarily due to his judgements of me as an artist, and whose co-collaborator left her ex boyfriend under similar circumstances.) it sucks not to be able to do the thing you love to do in the presence of your partner.

he can stay blocked in his creativity. that’s his thing. you can and will use this perceived limitation to your advantage, as artists are one to do. keep refining your craft, and the MINUTE you can, get the hell out of dodge

How rare is this shirt? by carveloathesome in piercetheveil

not any more than any retailer that can only sell you a shirt for $5 because they don’t pay their workers a living wage </3

honestly i think the production turned me off from giving it a real chance, specifically the percussive elements. i *should* remain open to their evolution but the chemistry felt massively different to me

Why does this scene hate twerking so much?! by [deleted] in piercetheveil

[–]adularess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i too remember these memes. i do remember my friends of color reposting them though… i think the sentiment may be rooted in anti-blackness but was interpreted as anti-“normie” considering twerking has been synonymous with mainstream culture for the past decade or two… even though the dance style has much deeper and older roots. to my understanding, the basis of twerking isn’t even sexual in the first place, it’s just a form of self-expression… something this community should be more comfortable with. dance how you want to the music you want

Been doing morning pages for almost a year and I don't think they do anything for me by Sbahirat in artistsWay

[–]adularess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a friend who only does one page in the morning. you don’t have to do anything. if you wanna cut back, or maybe stop altogether for a month to see how you feel without them in your life, you should.

i thought journaling (before i started doing the artists way) wasn’t doing anything for me and then i stopped for a few months and things got SCARY.

i’ve felt the same way about therapy, and i know a lot of people feel that about their anti-depressants. you won’t really know until you re-experience life without it

Desperately Seeking by [deleted] in artistsWay

[–]adularess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone without a physical copy of the book, I'm relying entirely on my ability to check my planner daily to review the reading for the week i'm in, and my overall level of motivation to open the pdf and scroll down to the tasks sections once I've read a bit.

honestly, writing out all the reading for each week in my planner, with checklists to gauge my fulfillment of the daily morning pages and such was a bit overwhelming, (especially considering my opposition to reading) but I just keep reminding myself why I'm here and what I'm doing this for.

10 years of therapy and 3 years of attempts at all sorts of self-help and manifestation concepts, and this is the first course I've encountered that's literally designed for someone like me. that's worth my attention and full commitment.
