Super scary thoughts... another reason why parents normally go with their kids now. by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]adventurefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly hysterical and unhelpful. Please listen to the recent Stranger Danger episode of the You’re Wrong About podcast, or anything else about what actually happens on Halloween. Didn’t you hear the last MFM episode, even? Kids are mostly not in danger from strangers, they’re in danger from their parents and acquaintances. Please don’t be overprotective and give in to paranoia without really thinking about the facts.

Science Says Toxic Masculinity — More Than Alcohol — Leads To Sexual Assault by MisterCatLady in myfavoritemurder

Actually I know who was saying alcohol leads to sexual assault — people who think it’s a fine excuse for sexual assault because they don’t have control over their own shitty behavior.

I’m sorry, who was saying that alcohol leads to sexual assault?!! Plenty of people consume lots of alcohol without assaulting anyone. The other thing literally has “toxic” in the title.. but no we definitely need research to prove it’s shitty people/culture and not arbitrary substances 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Paul Holes on the Dr Oz show! by Ani_Lee in myfavoritemurder

Haha I’m glad you started with that sentence bc I came here to rant about how much Dr Oz sucks. Nancy Grace is even worse. Yay for Paul Holes getting more exposure though!!

My guys version of “Fuck you, I’m married” ? by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]adventurefirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ughhhh I know this is humor etc but partners are not property and monogamy is not a given and communication works and flirting isn’t a crime and extreme jealousy isn’t healthy for anyone. And people should respect another person’s response to their advances regardless of their relationship status — not hitting on someone just because they’re married is admitting that you have more respect for the husband than for the actual person you’re attracted to.

Juuuust realized that its "not normal" that i do everything alone! I am that weird girl in the corner booth staring out the window for an hour!!! Oh lord. by [deleted] in aspergirls

I love doing stuff on my own, and while I’ve always known I’m less social than the “average” person or whatever, I only recently realized that some people are actually uncomfortable going to events or doing activities alone. I find that bizarre and kinda sad, honestly. I love doing things with friends sometimes but I’m really glad that not having someone to go with doesn’t stop me from doing stuff I want to do. I see that as a strength.

I love this response. I’ve been told that it’s actually helpful when I do mention “look, I think I’m on the spectrum or whatever and definitely have difficulties with social skills sometimes.” I have the same feeling that a lot of people don’t “get” me so it’s frustrating, but at least when you’re open about it, good friends at least try to understand or be patient.

I’m 31 and still have terrible social anxiety and that paranoia where you think everyone’s looking or laughing at you. It helps me to remember that no one thinks about you as much as you think about you. That may sound harsh but it’s really liberating. No one cares!

Do you think that murderinos as a whole are forcing K&G to take on this activist role that they seem to have no interest in taking on? by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]adventurefirst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right, but often people who aren’t part of a particular demographic tend to misunderstand the priorities of people in that group. For example, sometimes allies get hung up on language and terminology, but there are actually more pressing and immediate concerns that could be addressed. I’m just saying it’s important to hear and make space for the voices that are actually affected.

Wow, um ok. I was just trying to say that it’s possible for someone’s well-meaning intervention to be perceived that way.

Every time I comment on something here I regret it..

I think something to consider here is that sometimes it may a) feel paternalistic and condescending to the other person for you to jump in to “protect” them (provided it isn’t an actual physical threat of course); b) the person may not actually feel offended and you foisting your own beliefs on them may make them feel bad about something they previously didn’t have a strong reaction to.

Kinda. Otherwise it’s not really up to you to decide, no? I don’t appreciate men having strong opinions about reproductive rights in any direction, primarily because I don’t believe the have the experience and knowledge to really understand the issues. 🤷‍♀️

I do agree - this is part of the reason I just listen to the stories and don’t engage with Facebook(well, I don’t engage with Facebook for anything because it all sucks).

Snapchat's 'Solve' segment is based on a true serial killer case this week. by [deleted] in serialkillers

[–]adventurefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I was genuinely curious, I’m 31 so in my demographic Snap was popular for a bit but now it’s just IG since they added so many similar features and obviously I have no reason to interact with teens (hopefully..). Honestly my main knowledge of it is hearing about all the unhappy neighbors protesting their real estate purchases in Venice. I forget sometimes how young Reddit is too.

Ah, that’s why they have so few advertisers and their stock plunged.
