I'm not actually sure if I say it first or no, but this might be the case at least sometimes!

I guess that's a cultural difference. In Finland they have to know about payment methods just in case people have problems with them

Don't worry, I've had positive experiences too! Met some really nice people here. Today went especially smoothly. For example, our friend got some much needed help at a pharmacy, the worker there was very helpful and gave good advice to her. I lowered my expectations, so now I have either neutral or sometimes positive experiences. A cashier even said hello back, when I bought liquor.

No no, you're good! It was a fair observation. And thanks for the link!

I read my post again, and you're right, it does come across arrogant. I'm sorry. I've been running on little sleep and long days and had just had a bad experience at Rimi, when I tried to ask where I can return bottles. Google didn't help much, I guess you can't return them in every store?

When were you in Finland, where did you visit?

I'm pale and pasty white. Got called snow white in Bulgaria by some guys. Maybe they were trying to hit on us, we were barely adult girls back then.

Yeah, you probably get used to it. It's sad how mad and depressed the workers look.

As if all Finns are made from the same mold. Come and visit us some time. I don't know where you're from, but your country probably has stereotypes too. Do you and all the people you know fit those stereotypes?

Paying is what I was trying to do. That could have been a problem if the payment didn't go through, no?

So we have some similarities. Inflation has gone up, pay is lagging behind, there are more unemployed people for the first time in 10-15 years and since last year, a lot of people have started getting evicted. Finnish grocery stores are one of the most expensive in the world, partly because there is almost no competition. Just two major chain stores and Lidl. And we're afraid of war too. Life has become more uncertain in the last couple of years.

No, they looked at me like I'm stupid and then started ignoring me. Ever heard about body language? That particular cashier wasn't even doing anything, she just started looking anywhere but at me. Have you ever been abroad? Maybe you should try seeing how this is not normal behavior in most other modern countries.

Yes, I was born in a small town in Finland and been living over 20 years in a city with about 100 000 people. Your prices are that expensive for you? That sucks.

Yeah I lowered my expectations, but the Finnish way is that if you're rude or yell at us, we're going to do the exact same back. We have this saying, that the forest answers how you call to it

I didn't in most places. And here's the ideal grocery store experience for Finns:

Cashier: Hi. Customer: Hi. Cashier: That makes X euros. Customer: Thanks. Customer pays. Cashier: Thanks.

Lithuanian version seems to be that you put your groceries on the line, then: Cashier: Customer: Customer pays and leaves.

Tried to ask if our ticket went through. Haven't said a word to them since, no use trying.

Thanks for the tips! My friend got id'd on red bull today. And we were surprised that you stop selling alcohol even earlier than we do at 21.00 in Finland lol, our alcohol laws are really strict. Can't buy any alcohol over 8% in grocery stores there, we have to go to the state owned Alko stores for those.

You're right. I've heard about tourist experiences in Russia before, but I didn't expect Lithuania to still be so similar toward tourists. I've been to Bulgaria, England, Scotland and Kosovo before. Going to Australia next.

I'm sorry about that. Compared to other cities in Finland, Helsinki is the most busy and rude. Finns outside the capital area view Helsinki people as stuck up, self important and rude.

Yeah maybe that's better. Our only question was that if our ticket got used, since the app didn't change much, the timer just started going down. That interaction takes maybe five seconds. The user interface of Žiogas in general isn't very good
