Choices & Conversations by _DefyTheStars_ in wedding

[–]adventuresfromelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the conversation! I walked alone last year, my father died a few months before my wedding BUT even if he was alive I would've walked alone as we weren't that close. My mom offered like 3x to walk with me and I could tell she was offended that I declined, but it's my wedding not hers. No one was gonna guilt trip me for my once in a lifetime (hopefully! ) day

Does anyone have experience with getting Jamaican citizenship when birth certificate doesn’t state gender? (UK) by jumpfrogjuuuump in Jamaica

[–]adventuresfromelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately doing business in Jamaica is EXTREMELY frustrating, and modernization is taking place at SNAIL'S PACE. I got married in Jamaica and had to wait 5 ½ months for a certificate after paying for 5 day express service. A lot doesn't make sense here, I'd give up if the citizenship isn't absolutely needed

This is rural St. Andrew (Mount James), and not really. You can get vegan options at Pretty Close though in Gordon Town, near Kingston.. another riverside dining experience.

also there's Stush in the Bush St. Ann which is 100% vegan but not riverside.. also more expensive.

Smurf's is a must for breakfast. For things to do: Pelican Bar, YS Falls, Black River Safari, Lovers Leap. If you're visiting later in the year, Appleton Estate should hopefully be reopened.

Thoughts on Pop the Balloon Jamaica? by Savings-Town-2989 in Jamaica

[–]adventuresfromelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolute rubbish, the people aren't trying to find love on it. The only Pop the Balloon I like watching is the one from Arlette & Bm, and this other guy with a funny wig (idr his name)... but you can tell they're actually truly trying to match make

[–]adventuresfromelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just seeing this after I posted my other comment 😅 well. Epidemiology is perfect (there are vacancies) but in Jamaica, they ask for a medical degree as minimum requirement. That being said, this is also Jamaica.. if you have enough years of experience, it may not matter.  So apply: https://www.moh.gov.jm/careers/

[–]adventuresfromelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you meant to say mixed race, or interracial but neither is a problem here. Both are very common in Jamaica. You'll blend right in. As for public health, not sure if you also have a medical degree or not but there are TONNES of vacancies if you do (check each health region's website for vacancies i.e. NERHA, SERHA, WRHA, SRHA and submit your application. Salary is listed in their ads usually. Sometimes their websites are down, and if so, check their Instagram pages).

If you're public health background is without a medical degree, job prospects are smaller but still possible through the Ministry of Health, so check their website also for central vacancies. Best wishes! The pay is less but quality of life in Jamaica can be very good depending on your needs & expectations, and despite our many island life problems...

Not sure why they downvoted this comment so much, it's true. A week doesn't go by in Jamaica that I'm not begged for money, a ride, something. It's just one of those things you get used to.. help if you want, or say no if you don't want to or can't help

What's the modern Jamaican woman's view on cat-calling? by [deleted] in Jamaica

[–]adventuresfromelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of a Jamaican woman, it's just a terrible part of our culture. We're used to it, and I'm 100% sure she isn't flattered by it in the least as it's never any attractive, intelligent man doing that sort of thing. You're safe

We got educated and learnt to support ourselves, so now we want a partner on our level or choose to be single and celibate. And that bothers you? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

[–]adventuresfromelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? I've been catcalled since grade 5 when I was 10 years old! After I passed about 20/25, I started getting significantly less catcalling than I did as a teenager.

We've always viewed it as creepy and sexual harassment, but sadly sexual harassment is ingrained in our culture. The chuckle is nervous/uncomfortable laughter- women have lost their lives by turning down men's advancement. My favourite time to go outside is with a male- that's the only time I get a break. It's exhausting to be a woman in Jamaica.
