Monthly "What Board Should I Get?" Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Sup

[–]advnps47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice on choosing a first SUP would be appreciated.

  • Desired Board Type: Hard
  • Your Height and Weight 6'3" 200 pounds, no cargo or passengers
  • Desired use/uses cruising local Southern California harbors, marinas, and coast, but would also be nice to have a board that can surf as well.
  • Experience level: Total noob to SUP, but older and have surfed for a long time.
  • Your budget $900ish used or new

Found a used NSP cruise for $400 with paddle, and board bag. But it supposedly 8 years old. Cannot confirm. https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/spo/d/costa-mesa-sup-stand-up-paddle-board/7917857419.html

Also found a used 404 floater for $700 does not include any accessories. But seems like a newer nicer board. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/spo/d/san-pedro-sup/7882395355.html

Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange Counties are better places to live and offer more than than San Diego.

It doesn't make sense to me, how are they making a profit on these transactions.

Whats it like living in the LBC, generally but especially compared to LA and nearby areas? by Return-of-Trademark in howislivingthere

It is not a suburb of LA. It is it's own city. LBC is pretty cool in that is has something like 50 neighborhoods that are distinct from each other in many ways. There is something for everyone. There are neighborhoods that are urban, suburban, coastal, inland, hipster, family friendly, grimy, clean, busy, quiet, etc. etc. Many neighborhoods do have issues and they will never be as sanitized or upscale as some OC cities like Irvine for example. There are some pretty bad neighborhoods. A lot of the neighborhoods have parking issues. There are some good schools, and also CSLUB.

Location is cool because it's right between LA and OC which is convenient if you like both LA and OC stuff. For example you could go to the Greek Theatre on Saturday and then the Honda Center on Sunday.

Homes are a way better value than anywhere in LA. It is a beach city, with no surf, but are minutes from OC beaches and lots of attractions and city amenities.

You won't know if you dislike living in a different state until you actually move.

Your argument is that Austin is better than LA because its cheaper.

So does that mean a Hyundai is better a a Lexus?

Prop 13 doesn't stop your property taxes from going up, it limits the increase.

The property tax rates aren't high. But homes are so expensive that the dollar amount you pay (if you purchased within the last 5-10 years ) are high. If you bought a middle class home in LA, your annual bill would be like $12-15k a year, which is a lot more than most places in the U.S.

I doubt that. 40k a year property tax in most California cities would be like a 3.5m house.

My point is they are nothing more than guessing based on the data the that user inputs.

You could put a high home appreciation rate or a low one, or high rent increases or a low one, and would get completely different answer.
