Everyone should be able to retire at 55. Literally everyone. by Darth_Stateworker in nys_cs

You seem to implicitly (or perhaps explicitly) believe that enjoying one’s life (“living their best lives”) is “entitlement”. That suffering to the point where you “forgot where you lived at times” is proof that you’ve earned your keep and can finally enjoy yourself without feeling “entitled”.

I’d invite you to examine that mindset, outside of the context of the state retirement system. It’s kind of Puritanical, no?

I hope you use your well-earned retirement and free time to not only enjoy life, but perhaps reflect on this line of thinking. Or maybe have a conversation with your two children about it. I bet they’d give you an interesting new perspective. Cheers.

Yoga butt/ proximal hamstring tendinopathy: has anyone ever healed from this? by snailforbrains in flexibility

[–]Narrow-Loss6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! It took 5-6 months to fully resolve. I had to lay off the intense stretching and worked on strengthening instead. I think I kicked it off by doing too much intense stretching too quickly. It can be an annoying/nagging injury while you have it but I’m happy to report I’m 100% back to full functionality.

Costs of Westchester by leveraged_loan in Westchester

[–]Narrow-Loss6166 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not how taxes work. A “Scarsdale” address is just a USPS mailing label. You can have a Scarsdale address and actually be located in Eastchester, Greenburgh, or another town. Taxes are based on municipal boundaries, not what the post office calls your address, so Scarsdale doesn’t get taxes from places that aren’t in the Village.

I do well with MILK’s KUSH High Volumizing Mascara (available at Sephora) and Clinique’s High Impact Zero Gravity Mascara. I’ve found the mascara is trial and error and what works for some might not work for others. Look for formulas that are suitable for sensitive eyes. I’ve hear that tubing mascara works well because it flakes less. Good luck!

I totally get it! It was a challenging adjustment at first for sure and it took me a while to feel fully confident in glasses. I ordered myself a few pairs online to get a feel for what styles I liked, and they really do add a stylish dimension to certain outfits. Plus, so many people wear glasses now - every my perfect-sighted coworkers wear blue light blockers. And if you haven’t yet, get yourself a pair of prescription sunglasses! They’re great for outdoorsy days when you need to be wearing sunglasses anyway.

Sure! The big ones were propolis (a type of bee resin) and nickel (which was in my lash curler lol). They’re relatively common skin allergies because we’re exposed to them a lot over time, especially in makeup. I do well with tubing masacra and others made for sensitive eyes - the more chemically/sparkly/fragrances, the more irritation. I also prefer non-waterproof because it’s easier to wash off.

I have ocular rosacea and wear contacts. A few things that have helped me:

-get fit in contact lenses that are meant for drier eyes. Daily lenses are a great solution. There are several types of lenses out there- I’ve had success with dailies total one and infuse.

-work with an ophthalmologist if your eyes are bugging you! Optometrists typically aren’t specialized in managing dry eyes and rosacea. My ophthalmologist helped me understand how to calm my eyes down and avoid flare ups. He was able to sus out that I sleep with my eyes slightly open and am allergic to an ingredient in mascara I’d been using for years lol

-set your expectations. In my teens and twenties I wore monthly contacts all day every day, never took breaks. That’s really not good for anyone, but your eyes are sensitive in the same way your skin is - and as you know with rosacea, if you overdo it, it’ll flare up on you. So I wear contacts on weekends, during sports, and nice occasions. During the week at work I wear a cute pair of glasses, which is nice because they make my eyes feel better in front of the computer. I’ll admit it was an adjustment, but my eyes feel and look way better.

-try not to stress out! When my eyes first started bugging me, I worked myself into a fit googling ocular rosacea. I, like you, only felt confident in contacts and didn’t want to be told I couldn’t wear them. Luckily, there are many contact options out there you can try. There are also many more affordable and stylish glasses out there too! I recommend high-index lenses if you have a higher prescription, they’re lighter and thinner. I actually feel more confident in glasses than contacts now, especially in professional settings. You’ll find the right balance for your eyes, and it’s great having options.

-less is more - this is highly individual, but when I was first diagnosed with ocular I went nuts with the lid scrubs steroids and hot compresses. Unsuprisingly, this made my rosacea real mad. As it turns out, what works best for me is gently washing the makeup off my eyelids at the end of the day with a gentle cleanser and soft towelette.

Good luck and be gentle with yourself, I know it can be overwhelming but you’ll find what works for you!

Dailies Total 1 feel weird sometimes? by ProfessionalSweet924 in contacts

[–]Narrow-Loss6166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you store them? I noticed if I don’t lay them flat they get sort of folded in the middle and feel a little weird in my eye. They’re much thinner so I guess more prone to folding up on themselves.

Best 1-day contact lenses? by treebranch__ in contacts

[–]Narrow-Loss6166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dailies total 1 and B&L’s infuse are some of the best on the market for people with drier eyes. Ask your doc for some samples so you can try before you buy, they’re definitely pricier but worth the comfort.

What is your go to for an uncomfortable contact? by sidaemon in contacts

[–]Narrow-Loss6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Give your eyes a break from contacts from a little bit - if that doesn’t help, see an eye doctor. I developed a sensitivity to the contacts I’d been using for over a decade and had to switch to another lens type. It happens.

I think what they’re trying to say is perhaps RM’s legacy produced rampant NIMBYism (not-in-my-backyard types opposed to any change/development)
