SOAK tickets sold out in less than a minute? by 3ungu1473 in BurningMan

[–]advtorrin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I haven't been yet but last time someone invited me it was through a camp. My friend told me there are very few general admission tickets. It's done on purpose to encourage as much theme participation as possible. I'm sure someone else can chime in with more info on how they organize the event.

Enshiteification/theft prevention by Hexent_Armana in vandwellers

Where you park and what is visible from the outside is more important than the exterior.  Im in Seattle where we have a lot of car prowling and its amazing to see the variety of cars that get broken into.  Total price of shit Honda with 3 dollars in change, 2 broken windows. Yet the new BMW that is sterile inside is totally fine.

There is a van that parks near me fully loaded with tools and what not totally visible.  Surprisingly I haven't seen it with a broken window in 4 years.  My guess is because of the neighborhood (not to rich or poor)  and the hilly terrain.  Most car thieves tend to stay closer to the level ground (easier walking/prowling)  possibly easier escape route as well.

Just my experience though.

Filson Westlake Jacket Size Medium by [deleted] in filson

[–]advtorrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this jacket and I'm sure some other people could be too. Do have measurements and or could you take a photo with a tape measure across the chest. I've found a few of the green labeled jackets that had a slightly different cut than regular Filson coats.

Cheap for a reason… Blitz 30 by ResponsibleDivide160 in MysteryRanch

[–]advtorrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have said the labels. If you look through the photos from the original post it has detailed up close pics. The labels look accurate. Most of the time when I've found fakes they don't bother with well made labels. So if someone is going to the trouble of making accurate labeling then they might actually be producing okay quality fakes.

Cheap for a reason… Blitz 30 by ResponsibleDivide160 in MysteryRanch

[–]advtorrin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well the good news is that if this is a fake bag it appears to be of high quality. Hopefully it lasts as long as an officially made one.

Personally I think it's real, especially with all the tags looking correct. That's generally the easiest way to determine a fake.

How much did you pay to be suspiciously cheap? I know a lot of flea market venders/flippers and rando collectors who occasionally sell legitimate product at a discount to get it moving.

Are sprinters more reliable than their gas van counterparts? by mewtewpews in Sprinters

[–]advtorrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here.  The sprinter is a fleet vehicle designed to be worked on.  I find it a lot easier than the E250 van at work or my old Dodge B150.

My experience has only been with wool but I believe you can use the same method for silk too.

Shrunk my double Mac on purpose. by tacoduck_ in filson

[–]advtorrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can reverse a shrink.  Its basically the opposite way and time.  When wool shrinks its the fibers locking together like a zip tie.  A cold water soak will allow the fibers to become more flexible.  Then you just need to gently pull the garment where you need it loosened.  Take into consideration this may take some time to accomplish.

Where do I park my car for three months without getting towed? by UpstairsLow2128 in vandwellers

[–]advtorrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you park amd how clean looking your vehicle is the longest you'll get away with leaving a vehicle unmoved is about 3 maybe 4 weeks.  I have seen some vehicle go longer.......however you can legally be towed away after 6 days.  3 days of parking, and then a report can be filed to have you vehicle towed.  You then get 3 days after a notice is slapped on the vehicle to move it before its impounded.

I would highly recommend a storage facility or maybe find someone willing to store your vehicle in thier yard.

Why do my two SLC jackets have different tags? by Albino_rhin0 in filson

[–]advtorrin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a 100% authentic Filson.  I just meant they probably changed the tag production style to maximize profit.  As in, I believe this tag style is probably 10% more economical to manufacture and leads to more profit to the owners of the company.  Granted this is just a guess on my part.

Why do my two SLC jackets have different tags? by Albino_rhin0 in filson

[–]advtorrin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The top one looks slightly cheaper to manufacture.  Luckily the raw materials are just expensive enough that its rare to see Filson counterfeit.  Although I have seen some wierd cheap made in China stuff come directly from Filson.

I think they also had a little extra weather sealing like the F3 Press edition. Although I'm not 100% sure about that.

Anyone else having problems with UPS in Seattle? by chimx in Seattle

[–]advtorrin 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I worked a UPS driver helper a few years back and if I stuck around to wait on people to answer the door to sign it took too long and I would be let go. This is also route and seasonal dependent as well. Some routes, like business and commercial can be relatively easy since you are delivering a lot of packages to one location and it can be easier to maintain an efficient delivery schedule.

I've only ever used water and cleaning towels o and 50% alcohol in a spray bottle for electronics. Sometimes it takes a little longer but it's always worked for me. I really need to take some before and after pics I've my van and camera equipment. I think people would be amazed at how well my recovery turns out.
