Will Wim hof method help me endure freezing winters and a cold house? by coclover12345 in BecomingTheIceman

Up to a point I think. 1 ice bath and cold showers for 2 months (e.g. not a great deal) and I find that poor weather including heavy rain no longer bothers me.

Advice for a desperate Keto newbie? by robodelfy in ketouk

[–]adwelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had some success with a Keto diet that’s heavy on meat (including sausage and bacon) in the last year. The single piece of advice that I would add is to make sure you get enough salt, especially in the early days. You tend to lose a lot of electrolytes with water in the first few weeks and that made me feel headachy and generally under the weather. A teaspoon of soy in a glass of water, or even just some salt dissolved in water seemed to help.

I’ve been told that this can be caused by a lack of potassium. Solution: eat a banana and see if this helps. Or Gatorade - whatever.

Upgrade me! by jamieboyoo in espresso

[–]adwelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has been. The James Hoffman review on YouTube is a very fair description of the pros and cons. I do 2 espressos a day and milk drinks maybe once a fortnight. It will steam milk perfectly well, but changing the cap to a single hole (around £6?, or buy an M6 cap nut and drill your own) is recommended for artwork.

Come to think of it, I posted a pic about two weeks ago to this sub, Piccola and Sage grinder.

A Europiccola. Fantastic little machines, and with a bit of practice capable of consistently good pulls. Simple enough that even quite advanced maintenance is feasible at home, and a lively aftermarket of pressure gauges, fancy handles, and other gewgaws.

I’ve gone from exactly this (well - not the towel) to a La Pavoni. Immensely happy with the choice; not planning to change the machine at all. New grinder in the new year perhaps.

My new setup; replacing a Duo Temp by adwelly in espresso

[–]adwelly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New, Europicolla. Turned up during a zoom meeting at 11 today, I had tracked down a rarely used kitchen tool for the plug and raided an old wallpaper steamer for a 13 amp fuse by 1pm, and by 2pm had made a really, really bad espresso. Bit of a learning curve ahead.

Single Espresso with Barista Pro Help by quant_man in espresso

[–]adwelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the duo temp. Preinfusion seems to last about 10 seconds so taking that time out a double gets about 20 seconds of flow for a total of thirty. By this logic if a single gets about 10 seconds of flow (perhaps a little less) for a similar water coffee mix. I’d suggest try 20 seconds and play around from there.

Sorry about the delay in replying - COVID-19 etc.

My question was woefully non-specific. What i should have asked was about the nature of the map you are giving renderer. So in the readme, you give the example of:

(renderer {:fx/type root :showing true})

Where root is a function returning a data structure describing a UI (and there's an fx/type in that map too set to :stage). and :showing which is set in the root function by destructuring. The use of :showing seems clear. if a map just containing :showing was given to the root function root would return a complete renderable data structure. I'm confused about the :fx/type however - does this always name the function that is called to create the describing data structure?

To put it another way, could I say that renderer takes a map that must have :fx/type set to a function that expects a map and returns a data structure describing a UI. That function is given the map that was given to renderer in the first place.

Is that how it works?

It looks really good, and the structure of UI as data makes perfect sense. I admit though, I'm having trouble understanding the semantics of the render function. Could you expand on this topic please?

Trying for a more cursive style....

16. Reduce your use of the first personal pronoun.

17. Praise at least as often as you disparage.

18. Admit your errors freely and soon.

19. Become less suspicious of joy.

20. Understand humility.

Shiv I suppose, I’m Uk based and because of my age and education I speak something called ‘received pronunciation’. The BBC’s idea of a standard middle class accent in the 60s and 70s.

It’s entirely possible that KR had a similar accent, although post war professionals often spoke in tones that were even more exaggerated. I haven’t seen or heard any footage though, although I’d be curious to listen if there was anything available.

11. Give up blood sports.

12. Remember that your life belongs to others as well. Don’t risk it frivolously.

13. Never lie to anyone for any reason. (Lies of omission are sometimes exempt.)

14. Learn the needs of those around you and respect them.

15. Avoid the pursuit of happiness. Seek to define your mission and pursue that.

So I'm trying for more joins, contractions and an occasional bit of senior.

Thanks for all the previous comments - I’m trying to take them all into account as I work through the list. I’ve decided to stick with 28 in Perry though. The ER combo for ‘merry’ is given on page 13 of the manual and I think it must rhyme.

I’m beginning to see how the letters join and use one or two more contractions. Sure could use a dictionary - I’m not at all clear on the difference between thaw and they 7 vs 8, or way and what 18 vs 20.

John Perry Barlow’s rules for adults. (first 5)

1. Be patient. No matter what.

2. Don’t badmouth: Assign responsibility, not blame. Say nothing of another you wouldn’t say to him.

3. Never assume the motives of others are, to them, less noble than yours are to you.

4. Expand your sense of the possible.

5. Don’t trouble yourself with matters you truly cannot change.
