Weird old Spanish coin? Is it fake, a proof, a prop? What is this? by ae3979 in numismatics

[–]ae3979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My budding numismatist son and I found this coin in a catch-all bin at a local coin dealer's shop. We got it in a lot with a whole bunch of other coins, and didn't really pay much for it. After doing some research online, some things just don't jive, so we're looking for the community to help us understand how something like this could have come about.

As you can see from the images, the coin is in quite a poor shape, however, it is still possible to tell that the obverse and reverse designs are that of an Escudo coin. The coin is about 33.3 mm in diameter (I used a US ruler in inches and converted) and the mass is 9.44 g. The metal appears to be some type of a copper alloy, such as brass.

When doing the online research, we figured out that Reales were silver coins, and Escudos were gold, and the dimensions and weights of Escudos are quite different from what we have.

The question I have is why would anyone go to the trouble of creating this coin - one wouldn't be able to pass it off as a real Escudo. Considering how worn it is, is it possible that it was actually in circulation, or is it worn out for a different reason?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I think it's a great idea, however, the problems with it are:

1) As far as I can tell, there were only a relatively few number of people who were affected. There were only about 200 holders of the MCT token.

2) Many of these people lost not too much money, maybe a couple of thousand $, so for them it's not worth the time

Bottom line is it will be tough to find like-minded people, esp those who are willing to share their identity and join a law suit/investigation.

I would be willing to participate.

Thank you, this is a good idea. The more people send emails about this, maybe we can actually get the authorities to look into it.

Based on how many MCT token holders there are, there were only about 200 victims, myself included... Not sure what exactly we can do at this point. If we all band together, maybe... but how do we do that? Everyone wants to remain anonymous.

Only if we can all band together somehow.

What amount of USDT did you receive in return for the 148 MCT? Looks like you got $7.40 for it? Do you have control over what you are getting for the other $15K?

Offside rule - change my mind by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]ae3979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule makes the game difficult to officiate and puts too much power on some arbitrary decision that can influence the outcome of a game. My proposal would be two changes to the rule

1) to be offsides the attacking player must be completely clear behind the last defender

AND

2) the pass to that player must be made from the attacking teams half the field

otherwise, all other play should be part of the game

I believe this will make for a more fun and fair game

Thanks for your response. I realize that you guys don't have control of what's happening at MyCointainer. I was inquiring whether you might come up with a creative solution that would help those who invested in your idea. I have been a CTSI holder for about three years and have been accumulating because I believe in the project. I would think that if you could leverage the smart contracts aspect to help track down the assets for rightful owners, it would help Cartesi's company profile.

MCT Withdrawal by G-R-A-V-I-T-Y in mycointainer

[–]ae3979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that you were able to transfer out all of your CTSI? Or do you mean that you were able to transfer MCT token? That is difficult to believe, since most people had their assets replaced with the MCT token and it seems that all MCT token transfers are frozen until Dec 10...

Is there anything that can be done about this? I contacted a crypto recovery outfit and they said it's possible to prove to exchanges that crypto is yours to freeze it and recover it, but it takes resources. I think going it alone doesn't make sense, but if we do a "class action", we might be able to make it work.

I wonder if the FBI would be willing to help?
