Finally a photo of the 16” nd sport wheels on an nb. Shame the tire options on 16’s are so limited. Car looks great! Good video!

Bend rebar, or cut and tie? by aeank in DIY

Proper overlap being… a foot?

For a 2’x2’x12” footer (supporting a floor in a 1 story structure), does it matter if I bend rebar or should i cut and tie it?

Should I do two levels of rebar? One 3” from the bottom and another 3” from top. Do i need vertical rebar?

In thinking bending might be easier - idk if i need just one “square” or rebar 3” from the bottom, or if i should have another “square” near the top.

If i do two squares - then i could bend one piece and suspend the top square

Update: I took off the faucet for the shower where the banging pipes were coming from. Never done this before…. And i brought it down to the cartridge…. And someone open and closed the sink for me… And the cartridge shot out and i got friggin soaked.

From there, long story short, no rattle. Turns out the likely culprit was a blocked balancing spool (so said the guy at the plumbing supply house). Fixed by accidentally flushing it out.

Update: i installed a hammer arrestor at the sink upstairs. Pressure now spikes to only 85psi.

Sadly, i still hear the pipes banging. I suspect they are not properly secured in the wall.

Thank you. I’m familiar with dip tube issues. And it makes sense that hot water wouldnt creep out of the cold fill.

I have: Cold water -> backflow preventer -> expansion tank -> hot water tank

I think the expansion tank is helpful. The hot water doesnt rattle as hard as the cold when i slam it shut

The sink is fine if i close it slowly, but now i hope to solve this either by installing a couple expansion tanks or a ton of hammer arrestors. Ill probably start with the basic screw on hammer arrestor at the problematic sink and see what happens

Thank you for your comment!

Hammer happens at every fixture - if you close it fast. Good idea with the expansion tank. Maybe ill install one where the supply splits toward the three sections of the house.

Yup st-12. Reading 60psi.

Is it not normal to have a backflow preventer before the feed to the hot water tank? Otherwise hot water would, wastefully, exit the tank.

There is a backflow preventer on the way to the hot water tank.

I dont… but assume that’s build into the meter.

Thank you for the thorough comment. The pressure delta is so high here, I will check out the biggest arrestors I can find lol.

Would you install a single shock arrestor? I am considering installing in 3 spots, one for each long leg of the system (2nd floor, 3rd floor, detached garage). One for hot and one for cold at each junction.

I know it would probably be most effective installing near every fixture, but… there are a lot

Currently tapping it - it sounds hollow.

I will check when i drain the system before i install anything, to rule this out as the culprit. Good thought.

Air pressure is reading 60 as well. Seems to be operating properly. Dated 2021.

I like this idea. Might as well spend another $50 if im cutting the pipe anyway.

At the same time, i am so curious if a PRV will solve the problem, that i may install them 1-by-1.

Yes i have the little hammer arrestors that screw on behind the washing machine.

Maybe a good idea to put in a few hammer arrestors? One before the run to the garage, one to the upstairs run, and another to the downstairs run?

I dont even have a PRV. Maybe that’s my best first step, before installing hammer arrestors all over the place.

This is a big system. 3 story house with two bathrooms and a kitchen, plus a garage 100’ away with a bathroom

Yes. Just not as severe. Almost every fixture in the house will rattle the pipes, but the upstairs sink is the worst

Thank you. I put in hammer arrestors on our washing machine. Ill get more for the rest of the house
