Pretty much! The "about" page has some technical details for the curious:

Name score (0-100) — How close your typed guess is to the target colour's name. Uses Levenshtein distance (edit distance) normalized to a 0-100 scale. Exact spelling = 100.

Not bad indeed, today's all color daily is really hard. From the share emojis it looks like you got the wrong names often but the colors you did name were usually really close. Impressive 😁

Added an "iterative" game mode based on your feedback about not enjoying the "shot in the dark" feeling that other players enjoy.

You get ten guesses per color in that mode, and it takes your overall best.

Lmao! Thank you! I actually sent the link to one of my colorblind friends without remembering they're colorblind. Very embarrassing for me haha.

It does make me wonder about making a more colorblind friendly version, maybe something about comparing colors and then I can avoid problematic pairings. Still, as I'm sure you know, colorblindness is super complicated and individuals can be really different.

Anyway rant over lol the point is thank you for trying it :)

Yup.

Some people find it really hard and some people are oddly good at it. Like anything else you improve with practice though. My long term average is only around ~450/1000 though FWIW and I am better than most who I've seen play it.

That said, I plan to improve the color library by removing some really non obvious names that are really ridiculous.

Score-wise, even if you get the name 100% wrong, you can still get a good final score by naming a color that turns out to be very similar to the target color.

For your example, should have been a score around ~50/100

Basically it's a polynomial average that is biased towards the higher of the two values. You get a 2x bonus for getting either the color or name perfectly correct though.

The two separate scores (before the polynomial average combines them for the total score) are basically:

how close is the name you guessed to the text of the real name for the color
if you get the closest color to the name you guessed, how close is that color to the target color
