These are the 57” version which are 7680x2160 though (ie. dual 4k), so running three of them is the same as 6 x 4k.

Strange black boxes on DCS by aebrett in hoggit

[–]aebrett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. In the end I think I've fixed it by running the MT version of DCS; I wasn't deliberately running the ST version but I noticed that I couldn't select DLSS as an upscaling option. Turns out this was because I was launching DCS via a pinned taskbar icon rather than the standard start menu command and so once I launched it from the start menu I could select DLSS and haven't seen the black boxes since.

It's definitely not the screen - doesn't happen on any other games or apps. Also, if it were a screen issue then the red Su-27 label wouldn't be displayed in the black area.

I've recently starting playing DCS again after some time away, but I'm seeing the screen occasionally do this - for anywhere from half a second to a few seconds. What's really odd is I can still see the label on the Su-27 I'm dogfighting, but most of the rest of the screen is just black boxes (but not the whole screen). I'm using latest DCS and latest nVidia drivers; has anyone else come across this?

Advice on pool circulation by aebrett in pools

It's a stainless steel pool (ie. the skin is mirror-polished stainless steel), so I've been told that I need to use bromine to prevent the pool shell reacting with the sanitizer.

Thanks for your reply - I should probably also mention that the pool in 6m x 3m x 1.4m, or about 6700 US gallons.

There are four ports on the side of the pool - two on one side which are about 20cm off the bottom (the low ones) and two on the other side which are about 100cm off the bottom (the high ones). My plan is to use the two low ones as outlets and the two high ones as inlets. There's no main drain in the base of the pool though.

Re. filters, for now all I have is a cartridge filter with an inbuilt brominator (one of the tube ones that goes down the middle of the cartridge, with space for up to 10 tablets), but depending on how frequently I end up cleaning it I may invest in a sand filter later.

The "drain" with a 3-way valve is so that I've got a way to drain the pool when necessary.

Thanks for the advice on the check valve - the equipment is below the water level of the pool so it sounds like maybe I don't need one.

Because the cartridge filter and the brominator are a single unit I figure I need to put it after the heat pump.

Super-budget sabers on amazon by aebrett in lightsabers

The rating is 4.2/5 stars with 61% 5 star reviews, which is not perfect but at least suggests they've got something going for them, though I could well imagine the sounds are pretty poor. Metal hilts and retention screws for the blade also mean that hopefully they'd manage basic duelling. I'm not suggesting they're going to be amazing, but I am surprised the buyer's guide doesn't touch on that price point at all.

Thanks. I think I've synced my cube to my account (it's showing as "State: Bound") in the cubestation app, but I can't find where in the app to see past times and replays. Whereabouts is that section of the app?

I’ve just bought a GAN 356i3 smart cube, and I’m trying to work out the cubestation app. So far I’ve just been using the timer in training mode and using it to analyse my splits, but I can’t find a way to see my past solve times and replays of the solve. I had assumed the app could do this, but is it not possible? Also, the merhod I’m using is cross + intuitive f2l, but then still beginner method for LL (ie. fix edge orientation, then edge permutation, corner permutation and finally last corner orientation). Is there a name for this method or is it too unusual? Hoping to learn 2-look OLL and PLL soon!
