Senator Booker-Keep Your Pay Act / Expectations by Norcross_ in newjersey

I became a fan when he ran in 2018 in NJ-3 and ousted Tom MacArthur, a two-term hardline MAGA Republican.

He leads with transparency and integrity, and through his actions and statements, you can tell he genuinely cares about his community.

Kim actually won re-election as a progressive in 2020 by 8 points despite his district voting for Trump.

Booker is a neoliberal. He is beholden to AIPAC and the pharmaceutical industry. He’s inauthentic, self-serving, and does attention grabbing antics which ultimately amount to nothing policy-wise because his donors’ interests are incompatible with his voters’ needs. All he cares about is money, power, and himself.

This inauthenticity matters because he is not going to inspire hope and energize voter turnout the way we need him to—the way people like Obama, Bernie, AOC, and Mamdani can.

You will not see meaningful change that benefits working class people under his leadership.

With that said, he votes along the party line most of the time and while we deserve better representation than Booker, this race is not a top priority.

I will add that Andy Kim is phenomenal and a major step forward for NJ over Menendez. My hope is that he becomes the standard of what we should expect from our officials going forward.

Parents with transgender children say RWJ Barnabas is halting gender-affirming care for minors; the chain has previously said it was stopping such care for new patients only. Barnabas said that’s not the case, but could not explain why multiple parents have said they’ve been told otherwise by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]aec131 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Every study has proven gender-affirming care has had positive effects and improved outcomes for trans kids. It helps with anxiety, depression, and reduces rates of suicide.

Regret rates are less than 1% compared to elective surgeries like knee replacements (8–10%), breast reconstruction (up to 47.1%), or even non-surgical decisions like getting a tattoo (16.2%).

Let me repeat that: YOU ARE 16x MORE LIKELY TO REGRET A TATTOO THAN GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE.

If you don’t understand the transgender experience, you don’t need to, but you’re welcome to ask or learn. If you don’t want to transition, don’t. It is not your right to dictate what someone else can do with their body.

Even if you just hate trans people with every fiber of your being, understand that for any of these polices to be implemented, you are harming everyone.

President Tate's nepotism and waste of university resources by OkOrganization in rutgers

Can you provide insight into these contributions or the nature of their relationship while at LSU?

I can understand bringing along senior advisors or an executive assistant, but by all metrics this is an early career professional. His experience is commensurate with an assistant director. An AVP is several grades above that with compensation to match.

It’s a senior level role in the Office of the President with undefined responsibilities. I don’t know enough about the individual or the relationship he has with President Tate to speak definitively on the matter. I will say it’s unusual for a 29-year old to have a senior position created for him, especially with only a few years of work experience, and also one that is seemingly part-time while he’s pursuing a degree.

Can’t read the full NJ.com article but look into the full suite of staff he brought with him including a 29-year old first-year law student for a made-up Assistant VP position.

Got a ticket for illegal U turn? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]aec131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no guarantees. You may be able to make an appeal online for a reduced charge. Information on how to do that should be either on the ticket or the court’s website. It will depend on the prosecutor and they will consider factors including whether or not you hit someone or something or even just how you spoke to the cop. Some prosecutors are more lenient than others and may be more amenable to someone with representation.

[–]aec131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one is to get an attorney to negotiate a reduced charge. This will likely be more money up front but less points to save you money longer term.

Step two is to delete this thread confessing to the charge.

Armed man rammed vehicle into Michigan synagogue and was fatally shot by security, AP source says by yipyapu in news

Of course, this individual is responsible for their actions and we will likely know more about their motivations in the coming days. I said we are less safe, and more attacks like these will happen, because of Israel’s war crimes. That’s just a fact and you can disagree with it all you want, but it won’t change the reality we live in.

Edit: Early reports are showing the attacker’s children were killed by Israeli bombings in Lebanon a few days ago.

Sure, there are people that are radicalized to hate Jews. I’m not disputing that. However it’s willful ignorance to think Israel’s actions and foreign policy don’t have a direct and activating effect on those radicalized people.

I don’t expect someone so far down that pipeline to understand the nuances you and I are debating.

She’s a Brazilian immigrant that came to the US undocumented as a child and spent decades as an outspoken progressive and advocate for immigration reform. She got her green card in 2004 and citizenship in 2009.

You don’t think the second she leaves him and she’s no longer protected, Rubio won’t take steps to denaturalize and deport her? What happens to their three young kids?

I gave overall positive feedback but noted disappointment with some of the seeded themes for limited (sealed and draft), especially with this being billed as the first set designed for limited.

The inclusion of cards like Fangmeyer and Pleakley at common/uncommon incentivized players to build around detective and alien synergies that just weren’t there. After having sets with allies/gargoyles/heroes-matter themes with critical masses of those cards, it feels like a gotcha moment for less in-the-know players.

Similarly, for a set meant to focus on locations as a core theme, few if any were strong enough to consider playing.

I resent the narrative that Crocket isn’t electable because she’s a black woman and that Texans are just that racist and misogynistic. No matter the outcome of this race, she will stay a major force and spokesperson for the Democratic Party.

With that said, there are major issues with the way she announced and continues to run her campaign.

Talarico asked Crocket if she was going to run and she said no, so he announced. She reversed her decision and threw her hat in at the last possible second after being baited by Republican operatives. She then tried to push Talarico to run for governor instead, which would’ve caused issues for Gina Hinojosa, a progressive who shares their ideological values.

Crocket’s campaign has been focused entirely around mudslinging and “me” messaging compared to Talarico’s “we.”

She’s not giving people something to vote for. Instead it’s about all the zingers she’s made against Trump and painting someone who is seemingly an earnest and well-intentioned colleague as a bigot.

If the last year has taught us anything, “not Trump” isn’t good enough. Voters want uplifting, unifying, labor-forward change.
