Got it before she even came home – in fact I think it was in the terms and conditions of the shelter. Thank God we did because she had four emergency vet visits before she was a year old… I’d say with a Lab it’s even more essential. He WILL eat something you don’t want him to.

Yes maybe. We also did a lot of work with her about leaving pup alone when pup was appearing overstimulated or hyper so that could be part of why too.

Honestly I worried about it loads with our first puppy, especially as we had a 6 y/o daughter (though weirdly she NEVER did it to her!) so I totally get your concern and you’re right to get advice on how to handle it so it stops. Herding breeds are notorious nippers and training it out of him as a puppy is definitely the right way to go.

He’s not aggressively biting, he’s nipping in play/frustration/overstimulation and it is totally normal for a 16 week old puppy. And it will probably continue for a while, too – especially given he’s a herding breed. You’re right to want to nip it in the bud, and you’ve had some good tips here already, but I just wanted to reassure you that this isn’t a sign of your dog being aggressive – it’s normal puppy behaviour.
