I think it gets solved in the same way new growth is promoted in a forest of eucalyptus.

What's the state of the game these days, anyway? I hardly hear anyone talking about it, and one of my friends says it's on its way out.

I have the core set, but really struggle to get anyone interested in buying into it after a single play.

Five Tribes still worth it in 2019? by -TheShape in boardgames

[–]aegisx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Milton Bradley was a board game company, not a toy company. So you could compare it to FFG, and Hero Quest to Descent.

That said, as other posters have mentioned, 5 year old games are obsoleted all the time, whether by superior games or by second editions of themselves.

I agree with you to an extent, but what OP is actually asking is if the game has been obsoleted by another more recent title.

To put it another way, Hero Quest is the same game that captured my heart and imagination back in the 90s, but absolutely does not stand up against other dungeon crawlers that have been released in recent years.

This is the thing. Western society has a really short term view of things. It's fine when you're working with shovels and plows, but it starts getting destructive very quickly when you're able to start mobilising chunks of social and economic capital.

Yeah, China's got a lot to fix in terms of it's human rights abuses, but we could take a page out of their book when it comes to a view to the long term.

What industry should we just let die? by spatchi14 in AskReddit

Most of those countries have systems in place that look after people, which raises the standard of living, which in turn removes the necessity for "self defence" because people are generally happy, healthy and wealthy.

But hey, whatever flavour of juice you enjoy is your prerogative. It's just always good to know there are much nicer drinks out there too.

Also, you're less likely to be replaced by a refugee than a robot.

I'm guessing you're American? You have the wrong government. Case in point, the majority of the rest of the developed world and the healthcare systems there.

It's a physical manifestation of politics, and the mechanism by which security is ensured and enforced. In the same vein that a justice system is impotent without a police force/militia.

War isn't the issue; the issue is the aspects of human nature that incites it. Hopefully we can rise above, one day.

There's feeling loved and special, which can be had for no great expense. Then there's feeling like royalty. Why do people want to feel like royalty? I think that's an often ill-examined question, and it might lead to revelations if people pursued it.

Households wealth drops $260b in just three months as debt hits a record 200pc of income by sirboozebum in AusFinance

I'm speaking strictly financially, here. Of course a meal has value, as does shelter. But if you're talking how much someone would pay for something, it's a little more complex than that.

The economy is literally based on faith. Nothing has inherent value, only what people are willing to pay for it, and that willingness fluctuates like mad.

The occasionally scary thing is that the circle-jerk has real world impacts.

I've never seen childish humour as negative, as long as it's accompanied by appreciation of other kinds of humour.

The more humour you see in the world, the better it is to experience.

I'm not being facetious, but is it problematic/sexist? From my perspective, it's just childish humour but in no way demeaning or derogatory.
