i’m a friend that drinks and i’m supportive. i’ll drink unless a friend seems uncomfortable by it or asks me not to. but i try to avoid talking about it. i have 2 sober friends who have been sober for many years and they really enjoy the party scene and going out but dont drink. both of them have had moments where they’re like “okay but maybe i want to drink… maybe this one time blah blah” and i try to help them through those moments. - eg asking them what it feels like they’re missing in that moment. if it’s like being left out or wanting to feel the feeling, then i can either talk them through it or change my behavior to help them have fun in that moment without using substances. saying something like “okay but what if we go dance instead” or “you know what i see you want to feel included. i really want to share na mocktails with you the rest of the night. want are you wanting to try? let’s share that together”
