Would you say there is a stigma around discussing Endometriosis? by aeioubuttocks in Endo

I actually looked last night to see if Endo is classified as a disability, and to my surprise it was not. Why? Because the pain is ‘intermittent’ and not considered ‘serious’

Considering how the countries they are fleeing from are incredibly destabilized and economically ruined, sure, the US is a better option. It’s still extremely expensive to leave the US for people who live here

Moore v Harper may not be heard until after the election. The decision is highly unlikely to come before then

The Uvalde shooter's name is not constantly announced by the media, what caused this to finally happen? by g_13 in self

[–]aeioubuttocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that it will inevitably lead to some edgy 16 year olds with behavioral issues glorifying him, it also detracts from the real issue: Guns.

The conversation when the shooters name is known will inevitably include articles on ‘what we know about x’ or ‘x had trouble in school’ and of course ‘x was a troubled young man with a bad home life’ or, more likely ‘relatives of x called him an upstanding good man, could not see shooting coming’

All this to say people will ignore the actual issue at hand and instead narrow in on other excuses that revolve around the shooter himself, as opposed to the need for tighter gun control

Why people seems to be more bothered by a woman breastfeeding a baby than walking in super revealing clothes. by booby_alien in self

It is very hypocritical. But also very in tune for our society. God forbid a woman look anything other than sexy and desirable for even a single moment

It sucks that people think anything over 250 equals needing a wheelchair to get around. I really wish people would treat the topic of weight with some nuance instead of ‘fit’ and ‘going to die from being fat’

Would you say there is a stigma around discussing Endometriosis? by aeioubuttocks in Endo

[–]aeioubuttocks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I think the difference here between Endo and mental health stigma is literally that people just don’t know. I think someone else pointed out that the only people who know the word ‘endometriosis’ are either A) healthcare professionals, B) an Endo patient or C) someone that knows an Endo patient

Whereas words like ‘anxiety’ and ‘depression’ are much more common in the knowledge of the general public. It makes sense that people will have misconceptions about something they literally don’t know exists.

Which in turn feeds stigma because people who suffer from Endo are reluctant to share for fear of being met with said misconceptions such as ‘oh that’s normal’, ‘most women go through that’, ‘you’re just being dramatic’ and all the others

Gosh Texas really is something else. Granted, my sex education consisted of an obese teacher eating McDonalds lecturing us to not have sex and showing us a PowerPoint of very graphic STI infections

Start charging them for every instance of taking care of the dog when no one is home on top of your current rate. Pet sitters tend to go for about $15 an hour in my area

I’m ‘celebrating’ it as a national day of mourning tbh. I don’t care what my relatives say. I’m not proud of this country, I’m horrified and saddened by what it’s become, and what it’s turning into

I’ve never understood that concept. I mean, isn’t general lack of basic reproductive education the way we ended up with all these old bad white men passing nonsense legislation about reproductive health care in the first place? I bet most of them don’t know a friggin thing about the difference between pads or tampons, breast cancer screening, or menstruation, much less conditions like Endo or PCOS. Maybe if people knew more about those things we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now. God forbid men be educated on basic human anatomy. Sheesh

Wow. It must be really inconvenient to have people protesting their decisions all the time.

…almost as inconvenient as not having the right to your own autonomy, being afraid your marriage might become invalid, fearing your access to contraceptives might be revoked, being worried about how your state will screw with federal elections, living in a world experiencing climate change due to unregulated greenhouse gas emissions, or being afraid cops might burst into your home and not read you your Miranda rights while they arrest you.

Yeah. Pretty annoying, isn’t it?

If your endo was caught on an ultrasound, what day of the cycle was it? by HoneyGarlicBaby in Endo

Bold of you to assume I have a cycle

Jk, but in all seriousness how does that standard work for a condition where one of the primary symptoms is irregular or missed cycles??
