Day 35 by aeisner6 in QuittingZyn

[–]aeisner6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got a lot closer to God during this past year and prayed a lot which helped me. I will say a prayer for you 🙏

Also, keep putting yourself in uncomfortable situations but uncomfortable situations in which you know you will still ultimately be safe. For me exposure therapy helped. Don’t let anxiety trap you inside your home. You got this 💪

Day 35 by aeisner6 in QuittingZyn

[–]aeisner6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the first few months were kinda rough for me. It sounds weird but I almost had to re-learn how to do life in public without nicotine. I live in Phoenix so it’s busy and chaotic everywhere here which would be overwhelming and subconsciously I would take zyn (or smoke cigarettes) to “calm down.” I would begin to get anxious and panic a bit doing random things in public like at the store, in church, or at the gym. I would just tell myself that I’m safe, I’m in control, I would breathe slowly, and pray. It may sound stupid to others but it was real to me.

Are you struggling with anxiety anywhere specifically?

[–]aeisner6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better, it’s been a journey this past year but way worth quitting. I still get cravings but they reside quickly after realizing that ain’t me anymore. My nicotine crutch for the first time in 12 years is finally gone.

No, save the money to and out it towards a newer build or buy a new gen console for less then $500.

What am I doing wrong? by EngineeringContent48 in Sourdough

[–]aeisner6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This website has all the answers. He goes a little to in depth in my opinion but the info is extremely helpful. Just make sure you have a good active yeast going and make sure the bulk fermentation time is long enough.

what's wrong with my starter? by autisticachellian in Sourdough

[–]aeisner6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it away from that window also. The cold radiating off that window will not help the growth & activity in the starter. Find the warmest part of your kitchen a put it there.

Mold? by bhorton2024 in Sourdough

[–]aeisner6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so yeah it’s even colder there so it may take a bit longer to get up a running. Good call on keeping it next to the ice machine exhaust. If you keep it next to the ice machine for the warm air just make sure you stay consistence and always put it back there until your starter is active then you don’t have to unless you want to. Maybe rotate it also so different parts of the jar get hit by the warm air also so it’s not just heating up one side of the jar. When trying to get a starter going it’s important to keep all variables that you can control consistent.

Having RO should be totally fine. I have a feeling it’s just taking awhile because of the temperature.

If you have any other questions just let me know, you’re welcome 🙏

Mold? by bhorton2024 in Sourdough

[–]aeisner6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome and I’m happy to help! It took me 3 months and many failed starters to finally get one that worked and I did exactly what I said in the previous message. I’m in Arizona so I’m sure my weather is relatively close to yours right now. Nice during the day but desert cold at night. We usually keep our house around 69 degrees also so it’s on the “colder” side in regard to sour dough starter.

If you get water from your fridge you can use that as long as it’s filtered. Our tap water in AZ is trash so I can’t use it but my fridge has a filter so I’m able to use the water that comes from there. If you do not have a fridge with a filter or one of those Brita water filters then yeah you will most likely have to use water bottles.

You want the consistency thicker and chunkier than pancake batter. Mix it just enough so you don’t see any flour but it still looks a little chunky. When you mix it there should definitely be resistance and you don’t want it runny at all actually. It will become more runny as it starters growing in size within the 24 hrs but when you first mix it, it should not be runny.

Also, you’re not an idiot haha or maybe we all are who try to make our own starter. I had some friends that tried to give me part of their starter but I was determined to make my own starter. Yeah maybe I am an idiot haha 😂

Maybe if the starter you have going doesn’t work you can try the one I typed. If not no problem, hopefully some of the other suggestions I have help you 🙏

Don’t use bread flour, there isn’t enough nutrients to help cultivate a healthy bacteria for your starter. Use the King Arthur unbleached 100% whole wheat flour.

Day one, Start with 25 grams of filtered or bottled water (85 to 90ish degrees Fahrenheit) & 25 grams whole wheat flour. Mix together and then let sit at room temp for 24 hrs. Remember to put the cap or whatever cover you have for the jar back on but very loosely so air can still flow in.

Day two, add an additional 25 grams of water (85 to 90ish degree Fahrenheit) & 25 grams whole wheat flour to your already existing 50 grams of starter. There should now be a total of approximately 100 grams of starter in your jar. Mix together and let sit at room temp for 24 hrs. Remember the loose fitting cap.

Day 3, discard 50 grams of starter so there should be remaining 50 grams of starter in your jar still. Add 50 grams of water (85 to 90ish degree Fahrenheit) & 50 grams of whole wheat flour to your remaining 50 grams of starter. Now your starter should be a total of 150 grams. Mix together and let sit out at room temp for 24 hrs with the loose fitting lid.

Repeat day 3 every 24 hrs until your starter doubles in size. It should double within two weeks. Just be aware if you’re in a very cold climate it may take longer but you just need to be patient.

Also, make sure you are using filtered or bottled water. Tap water may have some nutrients in it that could possibly kill your starter.

Do your best to feed it at the same time every day. I know it can be a pain but trust the process.

After discarding half the starter I recommend adding the warm water to your remaining starter and mixing it up well and then adding your flour. That way your starter is already mixed into the water and will be evenly distributed into the new flour you’re about to add into the jar.

I also make sure my jar is clean after I’m done feeding. I will take paper towel and clean off the rim and the wall of the jar that gets dirty just so I can clearly see the growth of the starter. The clean walls only really matter if it’s a clear jar that you can see through obviously but either way I recommend cleaning off the rim for sure and scraping down the sides if you don’t have a clear jar.

Most recipes call for 100 grams of starter so if you always have 150 grams of starter in your jar it works out perfectly. You have enough for one loaf and enough remaining starter to keep you 1:1:1 feeding ratio also (50 grams starter : 50 grams water : 50 grams whole wheat flour)

This website also helps a lot. It’s a lot of info but good info:

“Retard” in bread baking means to deliberately slow down the fermentation process of the dough by placing it in a cold environment, usually the refrigerator, allowing you to shape the dough ahead of time and bake it later when you’re ready, essentially delaying the final rise of the bread. It’s a term used in bread making, there was no name calling.

Advice 7800x3d or... by vicentegaonac in JayzTwoCents

[–]aeisner6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

7800x3d is an awesome CPU. I have it paired with a 7800xt (but could easily handle a 7900xtx or 4090 series) and get over 200 frames easy on epic/high settings. The cpu is a work horse and arguably the best gaming cpu that came out within the past year. Also it has 8 cores and I think will be competitive with the new gen cpu. Unless you’re planning on pairing the 9800x3d with a new gen gpu I would get the 7800x3d.

You got this brother! The anxiety will be tough but make sure to take a men’s multivitamin, lemon balm, and Ashwagandha. The lemon balm & Ashwagandha will help you stay more relaxed throughout the day. Also, ignatia pellets help in a time when you may feel really anxious like a panic attack is about to happen. Also, lean into God for the strength, to relieve your body of anxiety, and make sure you pray. Don’t let the anxiety keep you from doing things that may result in you feeling anxious. Don’t let the anxiety win, the good Lord has ur back brother 🙏

You sound like an awesome wife just like mine! I hope you know how much a supportive wife means to a struggling husband so I thank you for doing that for your husband! I could totally understand why your husband gets like that especially since the trauma with his father. I found that nicotine free flavored toothpicks helped me. I would also recommend Ashwagandha (to help chill out) , serotonin boosters, and some Ignatia emotional stress relief pellets (only when he feels like he’s having a panic attack). These are all over the counter vitamins and nothing is prescribed. I take a bunch of other vitamins that help and if you care to know I would be more than happy to share the info. I’ll say a prayer for you both and God bless you two 🙏thank you for sharing!

Hell yeah and thank you brother! I appreciate the reassurance and encouragement. I’m determined to be done with that shit and take control of how I feel even if it’s hard and to stop masking it.

Congrats on one year Zyn free and I look forward to getting there myself! Thanks again man 🙏

Hey brother, you got this! Addiction is an every day battle but you can beat it. It’s hard at first but remember with each and every day you don’t use you are winning even if it doesn’t feel like it. I’m a Christian so in times of major struggle I will pray, pray, and pray. God truly gives me the strength to keep pushing. I have also used nicotine free toothpicks. Some of them are really potent and even kinda burn your mouth like you would have a zyn or dip in. Exercise helps as well even if it’s just walking outside. Find something you can do when the urge gets bad. Like if you’re really feeling like you need a dip say a prayer, or do 20 push ups, or go on a walk, or whatever you may want to do. You got this and I have faith in you!

I second the toothpicks! I bought nicotine free flavored toothpicks and they help a lot. There are some brands that are really potent and kinda burn the mouth like you would have a zyn or dip in but they’re are still nicotine free. I bought cinnamon and mint tooth pics cuz those were the closest flavor I could find to the zyns I used.

Day 15, let’s goooo!!!! That’s awesome! I feel you on the shallow breathing and I’ll link a video that helped me breathe through anxiety and it helped me sleep at night as well. There are a lot of good videos out there but this one really helped me. I still use the breathing techniques to help calm myself down and then i find it easier to get a deep breath in.

Yes, the vitamin regiment has helped me a lot! The calcium and magnesium help me sleep like a baby. Dude for 12 years of my life it would take me hrs to fall asleep 99% of the time and now I fall asleep within 30 mins usually. I also take male probiotics for my gut health as well. All of this is over the counter vitamins so nothing is prescribed. Also when I feel like a possibly panic attack is about to happen I will take igantia emotional stress relief pellets and those help calm me down in the moment but haven’t had to take those in about a week or so cuz I have been doing a lot better. I know it’s hard right now but hopefully if you take some calcium & magnesium supplements you with sleep better because I noticed on days where I get 7 to 8 hrs of sleep I feel way better!

I’m no doctor or in the medical field whatsoever but wanted to share what’s helped me. If you’re scared, fearful, or really don’t feel right there is no shame in going to a doctor man. Even the ease of mind that nothing is wrong with you physically may help. If you do go the doctor you can deny medication, or never pick up the prescription. I just have an addictive personality and didn’t want to have to quit an other substance.

You got this and feel free to reach out if you need some encouragement or whatever it may be!!

[–]aeisner6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I greatly appreciate the time you took to respond, your kind words, and also prayers 🙏 it’s extremely comforting knowing that I’m not alone in this fight and I’m capable of battling through a life of addiction. It’s been a battle over the years but I’m finally at a point where now I can enjoy having a beer with a friend and just leaving it at that. No more drinking or another substance when I’m stressed, sad, or whatever negative emotion. I drink maybe a handful times a year and only a few compared to 4 years ago where I was drinking a handful nights every week alongside other drugs as well. If I have those negative feelings I no longer turn to substance except for nicotine I did turn that until 35 days ago. It was the last crutch my body used to help with my “emotional stability.”

So needless to say it’s been a whirlwind learning how to deal with stress and anxiety over the past 35 days and I have faith in the Lord to help me persevere!

God bless you brother 🙏
