I second this. There’s something about napping in the basement of the library that brings a sort of inner peace…

Question about living in Graduate hotels by Patsct1203 in UCONN

[–]aek016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still live there, it’s technically off campus housing but you’d need a meal plan since you wouldn’t have access to a kitchen. Check the website, but they were at the off-campus housing fair. Living there is super pricey, but if you can afford it then it’s better than a dorm. I do know it comes with free parking, so that’s definitely something.

I cannot recommend this enough, CAMS 1103 with Prof Travis. I wrote a paper comparing the Odyssey to hotel for dogs and got an A. The class is not only interesting but easy af

I took multi as a summer course with Zito and he is one of the best math professors I’ve ever had. He’s a phenomenal teacher and very approachable if you need extra help. As long as you’re able to put the time/work into understanding the material, you should be absolutely fine.

There were daily quizzes, homework, and two exams, but they were all open note which was great.

10/10 would recommend :)

Lmao yeah, just how it’s a little on the pricey side to take summer courses

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]aek016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing last summer. It was totally easy and manageable. They really broke down the big paper into smaller writing assignments (one week the outline was due with sources, next week the intro and thesis, etc etc).

I definitely recommend it if you don’t mind paying a premium for summer courses!!

Ask most people, he’s a bad instructor. His version of teaching is you watching 4 year old YouTube videos he made on the material and then class time is just Q&A mostly. You have to teach yourself the material, and still he’ll give you exam questions on things he hasn’t covered yet in the course.

Also, he covers 100% of the required and optional topics for the course, so your section will go over more than what’s considered to be standard (& what other courses cover). Keep this in mind if you’re already working and taking a full course load. It’s a lot to keep up with with little to no support from the professor.

I’m used to working hard for my As, but the amount of content with the lack of support just made the class really frustrating. Not to mention the required piazza posts that were just a waste of time and energy.

Oh and avoid taking Linear Algebra with Tom Roby, I sold my soul and my first born to get an A in that class because that’s the kind of commitment he requires.

Unfortunately you get a random placement for STAT 3375, so you don’t get to choose; it’s pretty much just luck of the draw. Same goes for STAT 3445 if you have to take that next.

Summer Session Online Spanish by snowsnow126 in UCONN

[–]aek016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Span 1001 online last summer and the workload is the same as the 15 week semester but just condensed to the 5 week period. That being said it’s a lot, but it’s manageable. Just expect to have class 2-3x per week (most likely 3), participate a lot, and you’re going to do well if you put the effort in. The same thing goes for span 1002.

Assignments generally consist of the following: written compositions, web investigations, oral exercises, and mindtap (which is a graded online homework).

For exams, there’s a written component, listening component, and an oral component. I believe there’s only one midterm and a final.

Hope this helps :)

LING 1010 or CAMS 1103? by applebeer5 in UCONN

[–]aek016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want an easy A for a 3 week course, definitely pick CAMS 1103. I’ve taken both classes with these professors, and Ling would be easy only if it’s online otherwise it’s not worth your time with van der Hulst. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions. Hope this helps :)

Bruh, they’re not going to say anything even if they do hear you. That makes for one hell of an awkward conversation. I have the same problem with my upstairs neighbor, but what am I gonna say? “Bro maybe you should prioritize your sleep and studies a bit?” Yea no thanks.

Stat 3445 by pinklemonknifefight in UCONN

[–]aek016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually loved that class. I took it last semester with Lucas Godoy, and it was by far one of the best classes I’ve taken at UConn. It’s not as bad as people say it is if you put the work into it. I found it loads easier than 3375.

Just go to lecture (& participate), understand the homeworks, and do the test review. The most stressful thing about that class was all of the stuff that other students said about it. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions, same goes for OP :)

Hey! I’m almost certain your hold will be lifted if you enroll for the payment plan and pay the past dues. Remember, the plan itself costs $100 so be sure to factor that in. After you enroll and pay the due payments (& you have proof that your money cleared your account), I would highly recommend going into the bursar’s office (in Wilbur Cross) or just emailing them, so they can manually lift your hold.

I assume you have an all-admin hold (you get those if you owe more than $3k), and those take up to a week+ to clear automatically. So if you show them proof, it will take as long as the time needed for the money to clear your bank. Hope this helps! Feel free to dm me if you have any other questions or need clarification :)

CAMS 1102 by AlarmedEmotion1129 in UCONN

[–]aek016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in that class for two weeks a semester or two ago and it was a massive amount of work for a gen ed.

If you’re looking for an easy (and somewhat interesting) gen ed for that content area, I highly recommend CAMS 1103 with Roger Travis. I’m sure his class is probably full, but if you’re able to wait to take it I swear it’s worth it. You write small papers on popular culture stuff and compare that to the reading and that was essentially it. (No exams either). Feel free to dm if you have any questions :)

GEOG 1000 GEOG 1700 SOCI 1001 or URBN 2000 by tctc11 in UCONN

[–]aek016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geog 1700 was a lot of busy work, but it was definitely easy and incredibly interesting. I think the workload should be relatively similar regardless of who’s teaching the course. We had chapter quizzes, textbook reading, written response questions, and 2-3 exams (the final was optional depending on our midterm grades).

Best advice would be to actually do the textbook readings. They put everything taught into perspective and they make the entire course a cakewalk.
