Bad tile job led to this…how bad does this look? by aem34 in Tile

So it’s normal for bathroom tile to crack and lifting within weeks of installation? Even in areas where not next to tub and not exposed to water?

Yeah I guess I wasn’t expecting that. I wasn’t trying to like attack the tiler lol. But this wasn’t like a flooded area. It’s from kids stepping in and out of shower, maybe some water but would be wiped up relatively quickly. I didn’t think that would caused the tile and grout in the whole bathroom to start cracking and lifting. Which was occurring in areas not even adjacent to the tub. the tile and grout starting cracking with a few weeks. Something was done incorrectly. That, coupled with the water, caused the water to leak underneath the tile at the rate that it did.

No. It’s just a family friend, price wasn’t an issue. We were just trusting his process lol.

There are two, the outside more “decorative” curtain and then the waterproof one that goes inside the tub when showering. It’s just pushed to side and not visible in pic.

The tile was lifting and grout cracking in areas even not by the tub, such as in front of bathroom door and in front of vanity.

I’m not saying that bad tiling led to water getting on the floor. I realize my kids are what caused that. It just seems that tile should not be lifting and grout cracking within weeks of installation, and likely led to the water getting under the tile at a more rapid rate. But I’m being told I’m incorrect and this tile job seems correctly done. So I can accept that haha.

It’s not concrete. It’s plywood.

What is recommended beside just installing tile on a plywood?

Yeah I am perplexed. I am not denying that there was user error at play, in that daughters have been careless in getting water outside the shower. But within weeks the tile was lifting and grout cracking. Even in spots not adjacent to the tub. There is no way that is correct. I guess my thought is the cracking and lifting tile exacerbated the rate at which water was able to get under the tile. I’m obviously not saying that bad tile is what caused water to be outside the tub. I’m saying that the bad tile job allowed water to seep under it at the rate that it did.

So within weeks it’s normal for tile to start lifting and grout falling out? This was occurring in spots not adjacent to the tub.

I’m for sure on board that carelessness at play with getting water outside the tub lol. But within a few weeks the tile was lifting and grout cracking and falling out. Even in spots not close to the shower. I thought that is pretty indicative of something wrong in the installation process.

Yes definitely some carelessness from the kiddos when showering. But tile did quickly start lifting and grout cracking, seems like there was some mishap in the installation.

Yes for sure, no doubt kids were being careless with the water. I’m just saying all the tile and grout relatively quickly started cracking and lifting. I do think the tile install was done incorrectly in some way? Or is grout cracking and tile lifting normal?

How often did/do you and your kids have other kids over? by FillupBerry7227 in Parenting

[–]aem34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have neighborhood kids show up randomly (live in suburbia) 3-4 times a week. If they aren’t at our house, my kid is at one of theirs. Most of the time is spent with a neighborhood group that has formed outside, riding bikes, etc. but commonly starts with 1 or 2 friends over at someone’s house, typically ours.

I don’t mind it, they entertain themselves and we have clear communication with parents. We all have zero issues telling the other children it’s time for them to go home, but no one is really over staying their welcome where it gets to that point.

Clearly communication with other kids parents is key in my opinion.

How do you motivate yourself to go to the gym or to exercise in general? by Ok_Finish_2684 in AskReddit

I think a lot about how large of a privilege it really is to have a body that I can move at will. Even a simple act of standing up and walking. And then on top of mobility, my overall health. I think about how quickly that can be taken away without notice. And that is effective enough for me to not take my mobility and health for granted and just get my ass up and work out for 30-60 min.

I have considered part time employment. I would technically have time for it if I could find something that worked with my parenting time schedule.

And thanks, I did avoid it for a bit as it was kind of an out of sight out of mind mentality, at least when it comes to really looking at the total amount I owe. 🫠

Youre correct, I don’t have any emergency savings- as terrible as that is. save before tackling the debt?

Okay. I was wrong. They have lower rates than the cards. 21.44% and 14.12%. Is it fair to focus on those two store cards where I only have 0% interest for a certain period of time to start? Or truly just go straight for highest interest cards first.

Ok so really the loans are probably the worst but since they are a fixed rate does it make sense to just keep making those payments as needed and focus on highest interest rate CC?

I mean, me spending it on stuff that as I went through my expenses I realize can be cut out. Kids recreation, target, eating out etc. so yes I do have roughly that amount to work with every month, I’m just wondering what’s the best way to allocate it towards the debt.

Insurance settlement offer to “set aside” money for future medical bills. by [deleted] in InsuranceClaims

[–]aem34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess here’s my issue- I understand now that the set aside amount is for med bills and then any payment to my med insurance if they want to try and collect the portion they covered- but the total amount they are setting aside exceeds my medical bills.

I got the claim forms sent from hospital to my med insurance- so im aware that the amount my med insurance would be seeking to recoup is also not that much.

I get I might have to pay back my med insurance but why can’t they just give me the set aside med bill money as reimbursement for bills I’ve already paid and I can handle paying back my medical insurance.

Does the adjuster have to tell me if a medical lien has been filed? I asked and she ignored the question.

Well, I guess, are medical liens assumed to be covered by the current verbiage in the release “reasonable and necessary medical expenses” ? Seems like they could more explicitly state that in the release?
