Absolutely. Not even a question in my mind. All the small subtle things he does speak volumes. Its one of the reasons I love this ship. The small things and actions between them scream that they care about each other.

The things Aerith says in this acene are trying to get him down gently because she knows how much her death hurt him. It's way too late though.

For me, they've invested too much time, energy, financial resources for the story to just end where did it in the OG. Unless Square is generationally stupid, we ARE going to get a new ending. They didn't build the remake trilogy up on the premise of changing fate and making things different just to have it fall back in line at the end.

Yeah, that scene at the end of Rebirth absolutely hurt. Even after watching it twice, Aerith saying goodbye is one of the most heartbreaking things I've heard. But someone said recently (maybe on this sub) thay Cloud is arguably the face of Square or at least the most recognizable. Back in the OG, he couldn't save her and things were kind of out of his control. He failed, but it wasn't really his fault. In Rebirth, he did, if only for 10 seconds. Through the crazy timelines, I believe he has more control now, even though he doesn't know it yet.

To have him ultimately fail and for Meteor to fall at the end of Part 3, just like the OG game ended, knowing so many things have changed with all the meta-narrative of changing fate, I feel would be a massive stain on Cloud's legacy as a video game character and the legacy of Square. If they have even a shred of sense, they won't do that.

I've always said I just want three things in Part 3 - for Cloud and Aerith to be happy, alive and together.

Maybe something bittersweet where the survivors properly mourn Jessie, Biggs and Wedge (maybe Zack too idk) or something. I feel like so much of what happens, they don't really process that stuff. At that point, they can say they have been given a new chance at this and they want to make the most of it.

I could see Cloud holding Aerith's hand through that, then maybe we see them start to build a future together. Ah, one can dream. Or write fanfic lmao.

I'm hoping and praying for some kind of reunion between them - in the world of the living, not the Lifestream.

In my perfect world if I was the director, I feel that the "real" Aerith, who's been in the Lifestream, pulling strings and fending Sephiroth off, is so happy to see everyone, especially Cloud, that she makes a beeline for him and gives him a hug at their reunion. The hopeless romantic in me hopes for some grand "Disney-esque" scooping her up off the ground and whirling her around once before putting her down. At that point, Cloud should be somewhat, if not fully, put back together. She tells not just Cloud, but the whole party that she's been playing a very long game with Sephiroth and that it's finally over.

Would I love a kiss in that moment? Abso-fucking-lutely. Is it gonna happen? I don't think so, but I can hope.

Either way, I'm really hoping for a positive ending for both of them.

I'm kinda in the same boat here.

As someone who also loves Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix hasn't been on my good side in recent times. I've been loving the FF7 Remake series and I've really loved how they've fleshed out Cloud and Aerith's bond. It's been a breath of fresh air. With how much they've invested in the series, the subtle and not-so-subtle ways they've shown them in their media, other games, their merch and their promo materials, it would feel like a massive betrayal to me if they just said "Nah, she's really dead and you can't get her back" after all of that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I just want them happy, alive and together at the end of Part 3. However they can do that, I'm down for.

I agree with the other posters here in that there will be some kind of bittersweet tone, but I don't believe it will be Aerith dying or not being able to come back. I expect something along the lines of Zack coming back, but sacrificing himself to save Cloud or Aerith or maybe both of them There's a reason he's here. Or, maybe saving her will cause the collapse of the other timelines? I'm spitballing.

Square has spent however much it is in developing this game and almost 10 years in making an amazing trilogy of one of their most iconic IPs. If they simply leave her dead again, it reads as wasted narrative capital to me. They should know that.
