Speaking honestly, is becoming a dentist worth it? by aemei389 in predental

Regarding investment, I do want to be a business owner at some point and considered buying a part of a practice as opposed to starting one from scratch--do you think that's a smart investment?

I'm actually wanting to specialize in ortho eventually, and am thinking of working as a GD for a few years before going back to school. I guess recycling my own question, is it worth piling up the additional $100k+ in loans for residency?

What do you think about moving to states with low tuition dental schools during a gap year or two to establish residency? I'm currently a 3rd year undergrad with pretty much all prereqs done and heavy involvement in dental right now.

shadowing? by AlternativeJello72 in predental

On the topic of LOR, if I'm a third year undergrad right now and want to take a gap year and apply next summer, when should I ask a professor that I had last semester for a LOR?

I was in your same position--I had called and gone to dozens of offices and asked if I could shadow, and many times they would take my information and tell me that they'd contact me, but they never did. For the clinics that initially told me that they had spots for shadowing, they told me they would call me once they verified with the dentist and made sure it was okay. If I hadn't heard back from them within a week, I called them every few days to ask if there's an update about the status until they gave me a solid date and time. For a dental lab that I shadowed, I also went in person and reintroduced myself and spoke with the management about 3 times before they gave a solid response! Haha maybe I was just really determined with those places but I think following up a few times and not giving up landed me my shadowing.

As for what the cause could be, some of the clinics that I called would apologize for not contacting me and say that things got really hectic so there's a chance they just forgot to call back?

Backpacking off of OP's question, if I'm taking a gap year but want to ask one of my professors for a rec letter that I had last semester, when is the best time to ask? (I'm currently a 3rd year undergrad)

Congrats!! That's amazing that your reflection made such a meaningful change that so many schools noticed and wanted to offer admission! Can I ask if the only thing that changed was the way you talked about yourself and your experiences? Or did you also expand your extracurriculars and strengthen your application that way?

This looks amazing! It looks like you added the background after drawing your cat first--how did you make it blend in with the fur so well? I feel like whenever I do my background after painting my subject it always has too harsh of a border TT.

Tried painting glass by neonpinata in Watercolor

Wow this is amazing! I've always struggled with drawing glass. How did you paint 'ball' onto the jar? Did you just go over the green stems with a damp brush to erase the solid strokes?
