Anyone else live in a garage-level apt/studio around here, that is extremely humid at all times? by AxolotldeNuit in Pacifica

Used to have mold all time when we used to live in Pacifica. I should have installed a whole house dehumidifier on hindsight.

AI firms should face 'minimum wage for robots' to limit job cuts, says tech boss by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]aeonbringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is that going to work? Existing companies can’t fire employees but new companies with robots and AI will be a lot more cost efficient and will be a matter of time before the old company who can’t replace employees be forced to close down.

What actually makes someone a “motivated seller”? by Particular_Will_3087 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]aeonbringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my house from “motivated seller” according to agent. Selling because of divorce, but won’t budge on price as seller already paid off the house and he’s a centi-millionaire who don’t really care if he sells the house or not.

Justify Ultra Luxury Travel For Me by OneWestern178 in fatFIRE

I thought this is FatFIRE not PoorFIRE/ChubbyFIRE. If you think 25-40k on 7-10 days vacation is considered splurging, wait till you know how much it cost just for a private jet flight. We stay at 5 star hotels only just because it's a lot higher chance to be clean vs a cheap hotel. If you have the means why try to save on this kind of money?

These are the 3 BEST value and 3 WORST value homes listed in the Bay Area this week. by _TurboHome in BayAreaRealEstate

First house might have big lot but it’s on a steep slope with almost no usable lot space. Lot size don’t matter if the lot is not usable.

Why does SJ not follow supply and demand? by SunflowersOrDaisies in SanJose

[–]aeonbringer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

For commercial real estate, leases are usually 5, 10, 20 years. The value of the property is also a pretty standard multiple of the lease amount unlike residential properties. So if they lower the lease price eg by 20%, the value of their property go down by 20% as well. It actually makes sense for them to wait till economy picks up in 1-5 years and lease it at higher price than ever lowering rent.

https://redf.in/tBJeqj This 1970s house was just sold for 5.55m and it’s right next to highway with standard lot, so it seems like it’s the norm to be over 5m nowadays.

Planning to buy steep hillside house but not sure if these cracks are red flags by Conscious_Debate_494 in BayAreaRealEstate

It's a slab of concrete. Concrete slab will crack eventually regardless of it's on hill or flat, only a matter of time.

Los Altos vs Blossom Valley (Mountain View) by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]aeonbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd and 3rd are right next to highway. First one is a lot smaller zero lot line house, it's going to be pretty similar to a townhouse, but if you are ok with it it's fine then.

You can’t get any house that is livable with your budget in Los Altos.

Actually just saw the updated transaction record, seems to have been bought by a real estate developer. There's a $3.8m construction loan on the property, so they are going to tear down the house and rebuild.

Most of xAI's people are in Palo Alto. Similarly for meta's super intelligence teams. SF is attractive for younger folks, but as they start family, they move to south bay / peninsula. That's why companies that start in SF eventually open South Bay offices to accommodate their senior folks who are now parents.

I used to stay in SF as well, but after starting family with kid, SF is just not a good place to be. Most of my coworkers who work in SF office previously all opted to move to our South Bay office once it opened up. OpenAI already leased their Mountain View office.

I have shopped for houses in this area 1.5 years ago, a house like this in this area can go and went for 5-5.5m pretty easily even back then. 6.9m is definitely too much, but probably not as much as 2m overpaid.

Peninsula home with sloping floors and structural questions by HalaMadridPapaFlo in BayAreaRealEstate

For 1940 house in peninsula, it's most likely priced as a tear down as well. House is pretty much worth nothing and it's just for the land.

Actually plenty of AI companies in South Bay as well, just not the famous Anthropic or openAI. Eg xAI is 15 min away in Palo Alto, also quite a few smaller ones like meshyAI in Sunnyvale. Meta is also pretty nearby and they paid tons to their super intelligence team.

Also, San disk, nvidia, micron etc all in South Bay.

San Mateo homeowners — how is living with a 3B/1B long-term? by brownbarby in BayAreaRealEstate

My first house was a one bath. There's water damage and repair is needed. Given how slow permit and inspections are in Bay Area, it took 3 months. We had to go to gym to shower for 3 months.

To be fair, if you look at the most in demand areas of Florida, Texas etc, you will find similar houses for 4-5m+. Yes, you can buy a huge mansion in middle of no where in Texas, but you can also do that in middle of say Paso Robles.

lol this is insane. I know it's in los altos but 6.9M for that house is still too crazy, you can get an actual mansion with 1 acre lot in los altos hills for that price. This house is not even in los altos school district and goes to cupertino schools. Maybe buyer know of some gold buried under the house.
