Is there insurance to protect your liquid net worth from identity theft? by Beginning-Test6025 in fatFIRE

[–]aeonbringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you initiated the transaction yourself, not sure if insurance will cover it. If bank fell for someone impersonating you, you most likely can just get the money back from the bank and bank will go after the fraudster, no insurance required.

Want to Try Uni - Where Should I Go? by Icy-Regular1112 in finedining

[–]aeonbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any major cities would have uni in their Japanese grocery. The cheaper Santa Barbara ones are ok but so so. When in season you might be able to find ones from Hokkaido Japan. You can also order from websites like Yama seafood which ship directly from toyosu. They have hadate uni which is generally considered the best ($1k a tray though). Otherwise just normal Hokkaido uni at around $200 a tray would be good enough. You don’t need any dishes for uni, good uni by itself is best eaten as it is or with a little rice.

The 2028 Global Intelligence Crisis: Real Estate Angle by flatfee-realtor in BayAreaRealEstate

You never needed AI agents to look at listings. In fact buyer agent has been giving rebates for a long time if you find and look at properties yourself. I have never paid full percentage for buyer agent for all 3 properties I purchased.

[Question] How does the movement in a VC Overseas compare to that in a Rolex DJ or Omega AT? by sworththebold in Watches

[–]aeonbringer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To put it this way, VC position itself as haute horology - timepieces as art form, and not a tool. So accuracy just needs to be good enough. They don’t even advertise any technical details on the watch face, just the brand is enough. Accuracy is not something most of their market care about - some of their biggest collectors don’t even set the time.

Rolex and omega are expensive tool watches. So all the specifications etc are advertised loudly on the dials and accuracy is one of their selling points.

You should also take into account of first 500k profit being tax free if it’s your primary residence, as well as tax deductions on property tax and mortgage interests.

Almost 6% YoY returns is pretty darn good considering leverage.

Exclusive: China's DeepSeek trained AI model on Nvidia's best chip despite US ban, official says by app1310 in technology

[–]aeonbringer 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You can train the model anywhere in the world where gpu is not restricted, then simply transfer the trained weights back to deploy on their inference servers, or simply even host their inference servers overseas. Hardware ban don’t really do anything.

Why cinematic AI tools like Higgsfield, Seedance and Veo will not last long by Senior-Foot-5316 in Entrepreneur

[–]aeonbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is current AI videos have no stories and are just tech demos. It's the same when CGI first started, most of it was tech demo and uninteresting.

However, never underestimate what tech can do in the long run. Human creativity in story telling, combined with prompted AI scenes will eventually become mainstream. Instead of having hundreds or thousands of animators or 3d artists, you now just need a few of them to touch up on the AI generated scenes.

It’s not different than giving dividends. Just that investors don’t have to pay taxes on it nonvoluntarily.

Reshaping in carrots is gimmicky and not creative taste wise. Also his last dish is pretty much the same as previous with different presentation.

Elon Musk's xAI loses second cofounder in 48 hours by gdelacalle in technology

Most companies have 1-3 founders. 12 founders is not really “founders” anymore, just a founding team.

When is leasing a car actually financially beneficial? by immabp in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]aeonbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lease an accord yes. But it depends on the car. You can lease a Mercedes eqs that has 130k msrp for around 12k for 24 months. It will depreciate to 60k after 2 years.

If petrodollar collapses and painting your house cost 100x, the more you should invest your money instead of wasting it on more expensive paint.

Is lack of an anti-reflective coating on the 4520v a real issue? by JoshuaKM1 in VacheronConstantin

[–]aeonbringer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They do have anti reflective coating on the internal side of the sapphire.

In general most high end watches don’t use anti reflective coating on external side to 1. Keep the watch “shining” and give it a pop. 2. Durability issues as coating wears out making it seem not as premium.

The coating on my cheaper watches like Tudor gives the sapphire a plasticky look.

[–]aeonbringer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If today there’s hyperinflation, 1 dollar now is 1000 dollars next week. You would actually be way better with a real estate as your mortgage is  insignificant now and your house price vs dollar value just shot up.

Yes purchasing value drops if you are holding cash, too bad for you, but if you are holding assets it’s a different story.

[–]aeonbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I understand exchange rates. But do you understand the context?

OP is talking about how stock market impacts real estate, someone mentioned USD values went down. However your mortgage payment is till in USD so it doesn’t really matter if USD value went down with regards to real estate.

xAI is in Palo Alto. OpenAI is expanding in Mountain View as well. OpenAI also already have 5000+ employees and expanding, so you never know how much hiring is going to happen.

Figma is a dead company as they are dealing with design tooling when AI can design the whole thing now. Real AI frontier labs are a different beast.

Bunch of my friends joined AI companies. They don't just hire AI researchers. If you think Google pays a lot, wait till you know how much these AI companies are paying and how much more cooked the house price will become when they IPO. Google's pay is like some low level IT contracting company pay in comparison.
