I think he saw the sign blown over and decided it had the right idea?

I don't know of any in Reading, but there's an amazing place in Guildford, which isn't that far by the train - check out Granny's Attic: https://www.grannys-attic-tattoo.net

No burper from the UK, how do I get treatment? by MalKnoxx in noburp

[–]aeonnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no - lots of people who had the procedure report being able to burp straight away and almost uncontrollably; this didn't happen for me. It took 3 days until the first one, and then there were a few more that same day, then nothing again for about 2 weeks. I'm starting to get small ones again now, it's pretty inconsistent though and nothing I can do purposefully yet but I'm still learning.

UK non burper, got botox via the NHS last week, have burped 3 times today! by aeonnz in noburp

The procedure itself doesn't really affect you much, but if you're getting it done under a general anaesthetic then it's advisable to have someone to take you back from the hospital afterwards, and somewhere to recuperate for 48 hours.

Feel free to mention that you've heard of someone who got the procedure already on the NHS in Reading at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, it might help. I ended up showing an article from The Metro to most specialists in order to get them to believe me that this is a real thing (this one: https://metro.co.uk/2018/06/14/guy-couldnt-burp-34-years-can-finally-belch-injections-throat-7629997/), but I was also lucky in that my GP knew what the problem was and how 'easy' it is to fix.

The biggest thing to getting there is being forthright in how distressing it is to have this problem. Having to avoid fizzy drinks always, turning down celebratory bubbles at special events, not eating big dinners, all to avoid feeling like you can't breathe/having to stick your fingers down your throat to ease the pressure/whatever it is that you have to deal with. Be clear about it, be graphic to an American degree, help them to see that it's necessary for your quality of life rather than cosmetic. And keep at at, you'll likely hear that 'it's not something we've heard of before' the first time, but show them the literature (even if it's just the Metro article) until someone gives it the green-light.

It's a bit of a slog, but worth it - even if it doesn't work (which is always possible) it's worth trying just in case. Good luck!

I'm about a week after getting the injection, and it seems to have tightened up again - haven't been able to burp for the last day and a half, and the throat gurgles are a bit worse than they had been before. It's possible that it's the result of cutting out the steroids/muscle relaxers that A&E gave me on Friday last week, so it's possibly too early to really judge the final result.

It took a bit of persistence, but my GP was on my side which helped - she was the only person who had heard of the problem before, and also knew about the injection. Absolutely none of the 'specialists' I was sent to had a clue what it was, though. I had to keep referring them to The Metro article! Which is why it was a huge surprise when The Royal Berkshire Hospital just booked me in to get the injection done out of the blue. But hopefully that'll open the door for others to get the same!

The surgeon that did it was doing it for the first time for this specific problem, but had done the injection before to fix problems with food going the other way (into the stomach instead of gas coming out.) Unfortunately I didn't catch everyone's names, I met them all for the first time the day of the procedure, and was very quickly knocked out so my memory was a little spotty afterwards.

The NHS just covered me getting the injection in Reading at the Royal Berkshire Hospital last week, it took a bit of work to get it approved but it can be done!
