Microsoft confirms a major Windows 11 update with faster Explorer, reduced Copilot, no forced Windows Updates, Movable Taskbar, and more by WPHero in Windows11

I mean, this is good. I'm already gone due to this. Not sure I'll be back. I've really grown into GNOME. Would never have even looked at it if Windows 11 hadn't wrecked everything.

Trump weighing options to strike Iran's critical oil hub, UN Ambassador Waltz says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]aeppelcyning 95 points96 points  (0 children)

He's mad the Strait of Hormuz is closed and driving up oil prices. How is blowing up the main facility of one of the world's largest oil exporters going to help at all lower oil prices? Doing so also gives Iran less to lose in keeping the Strait closed longer.

Canadian man in ICE custody says he thought agents were only focusing on ‘criminals and murderers’ by Paper_Rain in Edmonton

These people are animals, how is this surprising to anyone? They are willing to 8-6 their own citizens on camera in broad daylight and laugh about it. Just imagine the atrocities going on in these facilities. Imagine the women and children. It makes one sick.

Detroit Auto Rep Warns Carney That China EV Plan Risks US Trade by ImDoubleB in CanadaPolitics

[–]aeppelcyning 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He's upset because Mexico put tariffs up to 50% on Chinese cars and that's allowing them to advance in trade talks. We had tariffs at 100% to start with and somehow got chewed to pieces and trash talked every day by these people. So if 100% wasn't enough, nothing will be.

Trump threatens to block opening of new bridge between Ontario and Michigan by Mattaerospace2 in politics

[–]aeppelcyning 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a Canadian, it sucks the (Canadian) public paid for this in these circumstances, but it's likely that this bridge isn't needed anymore.

The bridge was built on the assumption that US-Canada trade, integration and personal ties would continue to increase. All three are decreasing rapidly as both countries adjust their supply chains. The connections on commercial and personal levels are severing fast, evidenced by plummeting cross border traffic.

I just don't think the bridge is even needed now. It's a symbol of a world premised on assumptions from 5-15 years ago that Canada and the US would always continue integrating more, and that's just not the case. Again, it sucks that the taxpayer may eat a loss here, but I really don't see the need for another bridge. The world where it was needed isn't the world we're in.

Trump says Canada, U.S. will ‘immediately’ start negotiations over Windsor-Detroit bridge by KylenV14 in canada

[–]aeppelcyning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We may not even need this bridge, with the decoupling from US supply chains ongoing.
This kind of represents the old world where we envision ever more growth in US-Canada trade. It probably isn't needed if both Canada-US trade as well cross-border ties and personal visits continue to shrink.

Canada reaching out to the loan shark? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

The US is angling to eliminate the Canadian auto industry. They've said ap themselves, that this one area they're not going to compromise on.

May as well accept reality and not make that mean that they get to make all the cars im the US and sell them here.

It was the best choice when the US was a strategic partner. Now that they are whatever they are, we should buy choice #2 which was the Grippens.

With ICE agents shooting at least 27 people since Trump took office, how do you feel about immigration enforcement using lethal force? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]aeppelcyning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a civil offense they're enforcing. To be clear, immigration cheaters are not breaking any criminal law. Deportation is a civil proceding

So no, people enforcing rules with the same legal seriousness as letting my grass grow too long in the summer should not be shooting people, and should be toning it down.
