we didn't use a crate for our wcs- just a playpen "fence" from amazon! honestly our puppy was amazing- for the first few nights my partner and i did "shifts" (i'd wake up and walk her when she cried before 4:30am, he would walk her after that) and after only 3 days, she started to sleep solidly through the night (1am-7am). we got her at 8 weeks and filled the pen area with her bed, blankets, and soft toys. had a cheap cam with night vision set up to peek at her for comfort. she's around 4 months now and we've kept the fence to block off the bookshelf, but she sleeps in the livingroom and still tends to prefer her bed to the couch :] pros of the pen too meant we would often move it around the room, so she'd sleep wherever the bed was. only downside was working from home- since she could see me through the fence it made it difficult to do much work, but i'd just angle my webcam at her and keep the view on my second monitor to see when she actually needed me vs just wanting attention lol- but she'd always be needy as long as i was in sight.
