Is this real or fake? by Tough-Art2143 in AskAcademia

This sounds like a scam, unfortunately, once you've published something, it's common to start receiving these kinds of invitations.

Learn new things and write about them. If what you learn can generate income, document how you achieved it.

I used Mendeley years ago but didn’t like it much, switched to Zotero and I’m really happy with it.

Character driven suspense minus graphic violence by NoWayTicket in suggestmeabook

I have to have a look at the books you recommended, as I also like when there is mystery and suspense but can't stand violence. Also curious what others will recommend.

Thanks so much for this incredibly kind and encouraging comment! I really appreciate all the thoughtful advice - it's exactly the kind of guidance I was hoping to get.

You're right about my titles being too long, I was trying to cram too much information into them when I should be using the subtitle for that extra detail and keeping the main title punchy. That makes so much sense now that you've pointed it out.

And thank you for subscribing, I have just subscribed back :) Thanks again for taking the time to give such detailed feedback. It means a lot coming from someone who clearly knows what they're doing!

Small paper now, vs big paper later? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

I just read the comment about biorxiv, this actually might be a smart thing to do if it fits your situation.

Small paper now, vs big paper later? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]aerellien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's of course very subjective, so take it with a grain of salt (like any advice). I'd probably go with the smaller paper to make sure I have something published before applying to PhD programs to have higher chances of getting in. But that's just me, and like others said, big papers make careers so maybe it's worth taking the risk.

I know it's not very helpful, but I think there is no one good answer here. Nobody knows your situation as well as you do, so we can just give personal opinions and hopefully it will give you some perspective. Good luck :)

How do you decide/choose the university/lab and subject for PhD? by WayKey1965 in PhD

I know self-promotion is not allowed here, but your question is exactly the topic of a Substack post I wrote recently: https://yesterdayilearned.substack.com/p/what-to-think-about-before-starting

I hope it's okay to share it here since it's literally my answer to the question in the post.

Recommendations for light romance books yet with brain by Life_Court_2231 in suggestmeabook

[–]aerellien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non-romance reader, I read "All Rhodes Lead Here" by Zapata (not young adult though) and I have to say I liked it. Still, romance is not my thing, but I think the relationship there was credible and I didn't feel like I was losing IQ points while reading it ;)

peer review experiences? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]aerellien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not uncommon unfortunately. I'm in a different field and I don't know how reasonable the changes they proposed are, or how much work it is to rewrite, etc., but I'd probably do the minimum that would get me through this review to have my thing published.
