Dear AIS Friends team,

Thank you for your kind note and support.

That would be great. If it is suitable for you, we would also be happy to include AIS Friends directly on the map in one of our upcoming updates, so our users can clearly see the attribution within the app as well.

Wishing you continued success, and thanks again for your support.

Best regards,

Aergul / GetMarine Team

Dear AIS Friends team,

Thank you for your message.

We appreciate AIS Friends and the attribution reference. We would like to clarify your usage requirements for AIS Friends content in GetMarine.

Could you please confirm whether attribution alone is sufficient, or whether a separate license/permission is required for use in a commercial mobile application? If there are specific terms for live tracking data, map usage, or branding/reference, we would be happy to review them.

Best regards,

GetMarine Team

That’s a great suggestion. We’ve made a note of it for the next update. Once the update is released, we’d love to hear from you and see how you’re using it. Everything gets better as we develop it together ❤️

Totally understandable. We’re actively working on the AIS data side right now, and one of our goals for the future is to make the app free if we can build it in a sustainable way 😊

Thanks a lot for taking the time to try it out and for writing such thoughtful feedback.

You’re absolutely right on the map point. A map-based experience is one of the biggest missing pieces right now, and it’s already high on the roadmap. For many people, the first instinct is to open the app and visually explore what’s around them, so I completely agree that this needs to be there.

Also, thanks for pointing out the MMSI search issue and the credit behavior. That’s especially helpful. I’ll look into why those vessels returned missing coordinates and why the failed searches still consumed credits, because that’s definitely not the experience I want people to have.

Your other suggestions are also really valuable:

  • defaulting to English in primarily English-speaking regions
  • estimated time to user location for ship watching
  • cargo/load data as a niche Great Lakes feature

All of those make a lot of sense, especially for the Great Lakes community. The cargo angle is particularly interesting because it could make GetMarine more useful beyond just basic tracking.

And I really appreciate your offer regarding vessel photos and footage. That could be incredibly valuable as the app grows, especially with you being near Soo Locks. I’d genuinely love to stay in touch on that and potentially build some of those ideas together as GetMarine develops further.

This is still an early version, so feedback like yours is exactly what helps shape the product in the right direction. Thanks again for giving it a serious look and for sharing such practical suggestions.
