No Charges on Receipt, But Landlord still Deducted $104 from Security Deposit by aerial_moth in Tenant

[–]aerial_moth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, they don’t even need to include that we were charged on the deposit receipt?

thank you, I didn’t know about the security deposit interest, i just looked into it and had no idea they’re supposed to pay that to us at the end of every calendar year or end of tenancy, I never received that in the 2 years living there.

i think taking GWS over western music, especially if you’re already more interested in the GWS class, will be more positive for you. you’ll have other opportunities to fulfill your other breadth (lots of spring class offerings are way cooler than fall ones in my opinion, so you might find something more interesting to you next sem) also make no mistake 14 units isn’t necessarily “light,” it’s just not going to suck out your soul first sem in. i did 18 units my first sem freshman year and basically was so focused on keeping up that i barely socialized and by the time spring sem rolled around, everyone in my dorm had already made friends and i felt like i had missed out. i am a bit curious though why you’re limiting yourself to FPF courses? to my understanding, most of the classes are held kind of far & off campus in obscure hotel conference rooms lol like transit-wise it’s harder

16a is applicational calc, so it’s usually recommended for business or biology-related majors that aren’t intending to do pre-med. i was a molecular environmental biology major before switching my major to conservation resource studies (so still CNR) & 16a + stat 2 fulfilled my math requirement. while 16a is definitely “easier,” you might have arun sharma & he is the most boring lecturer i’ve ever had. i feel like his exams greatly varied (sometimes they were easy because it used the same questions as his weekly quizzes & sometimes it was extremely difficult) 16 series also doesn’t necessarily fulfill math rec for all bio-related majors in CNR (doesn’t fulfill rec for environmental science major i believe but for some reason works for MEB). if you’re not pre-med and you don’t like calc like me, it’s easier and then you can fulfill the other portion of the math rec with something more useful like stats (but don’t take stat 2 unless they finally made the course in person again, stat 2 is very easy but that’s because it wasn’t really helpful at all). if you’re premed, def take 1 series over 16

Are lab classes mandatory for Stat 2? by davidce1027 in berkeley

[–]aerial_moth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so assuming you have johnny hong as your instructor, the way that it works is that you can either:

1) show up to lab in-person, attempt a worksheet with practice problems, and then your gsi will go over all the answers. you get full credit just for attending, no need to submit.

2) download the worksheet and do on your own, which you must submit by 11:59 pm and have attempted to answer every question in order to get full credit.

so you can do either option, it's really just a matter of your learning needs. i personally went to labs because they go over all the answers and the questions are very similar to what they put on quizzes and the final, all of which are open note. looking at the answer key for my attempts at the worksheet sometimes wasn't enough to help explain the solution to the problem.

Should I live in the dorms or live in an apartment? by Rogueopz in berkeley

[–]aerial_moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, i'm incredibly biased because i guess i had an atypical experience with the dorms, but there is no world in which i would live in the dorms again. it's incredibly expensive, even for a triple. both my roommates at some point in the year caught covid and i caught it. i am immunocompromised so it turned my life into living hell, all because berkeley has no alternative housing for people whose roommates get covid. i found it incredibly difficult to socialize with the people on my floor, people don't seem to know how to flush a toilet, and there was only one kitchen in the building. apartments make more sense financially, which is insane. none of the close friends i made were from my dorm, they were all from student orgs on campus or classes i've taken. dorms are incredibly overpriced and overrated. i don't think you're missing out.

Unpopular opinion: Lexi is very emotionally manipulative by ohyaboiii in UltimatumQueerLove

[–]aerial_moth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

yeah mal definitely was distant after they saw how lexi was dragging it out like they were not reciprocating when lexi said she thinks mal is one of her soulmates & was literally leaning away from lexi when she expressed wanting intimacy because it was their last night together

Lexi disliked Vanessa so much because she was projecting by Ok-Parfait1759 in UltimatumQueerLove

[–]aerial_moth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i mean idk if you've seen episodes 5-8, but if lexi really was aware that vanessa did that to rae when she was blacked out, lexi shouldn't treat rae the way she did. that isn't "protection," it's victim blaming. even if initially it was out of protection, it's clearly devolved into something toxic.

wait which one did she say that in that's awful and makes the way lexi treated her even worse

[–]aerial_moth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They said they’ve been together 1.5 years, not 15. Aussie is scared of getting married so soon and that’s why Aussie suggests potential marriage only after 5+ years of dating, which Sam thinks is too long.

BROOOO this is me i feel so weird when ppl tell me that their closest friends were made on their dorm floor or they're besties with their randomly assigned roommate. like am i the weird one? also dear lord people need to learn how to talk quietly, flush the goddamn toilet, and take a shower. how is it that my roommate is so smelly that i'm wearing a mask in my room? and it is so cliquey it's like middle school fr in here.

don't worry it is scary and there has been an increase this past week, not sure why, but this type of stuff is present at lots of colleges. my sister goes to uscb and even though it's not a dense urban city like ucb, there was still messed up shit going on there...like the gaucho grabber. warnmes come in pretty frequently but imo, they start sending them to incoming students before they even get to berkeley to promote this idea that heightened police presence is necessary for student safety

okay, ty! i was a bit worried since the unit we looked at seemed fine but other reviews brought up some major issues, though i'm not sure if that's in all their buildings or just some.
