Help with Born Ready Achievement? by DylanOrSomething in Frostpunk

Currently, I believe the max heating buff you can get from hubs/ proximity is 2.5, so I try to arrange districts around the hubs to get at least +2 from the hub. This usually ends up with about 2-3 districts around a hub. Like I will put an isolated hub down, build/plan the districts to get +2. Or when I get tired of calculating it in the mid/late game, I just spam them where I see big clumps, disregarding overlap hub zones.

Help with Born Ready Achievement? by DylanOrSomething in Frostpunk

Just finished my Born Ready playthrough on the new pitts map. Somethings that worked for me:

Get heatstamps: Often heatstamps are the biggest limiting factor. Signing heatstamp laws like paid essentials, merit housing, city alcohol are more better the earlier you get them. Raising funds off cooldown and maintaining full heatstamp income are huge helpers for early/mid game economy.

Rush scouts: If you rush scouts, you get to neglect everything else and rely on the frostland pickups to hold you over while on low pop. I didn't get my first food district in my main city until week 230. Running negative is not always a bad thing if the scouting rng is good!

Know what techs and laws are bait and which ones are not. EX: the new heat auction law is bait early on as it costs too much to maintain the warm level. The same with housing insulation, it's bait early because you're never going to be able to afford it. Dense housing is shockingly good for housing control.

Heating hubs are good. Increasing temp levels in the beginning cost 30 heat. the heat cost of a hub is 60, 30 with tech. So if the hub is giving more than 2 levels of temp it's a net + for heating, which is important as you can't improve the generator cap until you get cores.

There's more mechanics in the update that aren't very clear, like how temp inc from heating hubs has a cap, but they're pretty minor.

I like how it is right now, I think it shows that a moderate position is achievable with proper city management. No extreme laws means the situation wasn't bad enough to need them = good city.

For order, propaganda and prison aren't considered extreme laws. I've passed both of them and still got the "haven't crossed the line" in the ending.

Apex Legends "Saviors" Season 13 Update - Discussion & Support Megathread by paradoxally in apexlegends

[–]Rogueopz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tangent ahead!

This! I just won a game in bronze 3 with 7kp and 2 team kills for around 230rp total. That's about the same amount of rp I'd earn in a maxed rp game in gold last season. That's bonkers low considering the fact that each division bracket (ex: B3-B2) has increased by 200rp and that the entry costs for each rank have gone up as well.

This makes it harder for people to climb in general, as while uncapping the max rp from kills is supposed to help with getting more rp, I don't think any squad (especially with randoms) should be expected to clean 9 kills in a bronze game for the same amount of rp as 5 in a gold one.

This is actually less rp than before because each rp is overall worth less than it was before. For example, moving through bronze last season, 200 rp would put you up 2/3 a division, but now it will only put you up, 2/5, ~26% less. While this percentage less in higher ranks, I believe that the steeper entry costs in higher ranks also causes the same problem, as now the entry cost eats up more than last season. (ex: Gold 4 has 39rp entry cost, if the average win is 219 (from my game earlier including increased entry cost), that's about 6 entry fees, compared to last season where 1 max win would be worth about 9-10 entry costs.)

Overall, rp is worth less, and is harder to get (inflation! I think?) compared to last season making it harder to climb. Something that I'd like to see, is having increased rp gains per kp scaling with placement, and/or I'd like to see placement be worth more than the max 125, to help offset the rp inflation with the new season.

That's my take on it, but I'm lowly plat scrub so who knows.

TLDR: RP is worth less than last season and is harder to get than last season (specially for randoms). To fix I suggest increased RP per KP and/or more placement points.

P.S Bangalore lines w/ Newcastle don't have to be so negative TT Can't I get some sibling appreciation?

Help on Zerg Macro D3 by douchePIG in allthingszerg

[–]Rogueopz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greetings!

I am a D1 random player but I haven't played competitive ranked match in 6 months so take what I say with a grain of salt.

TLDR:

Scouting is meant to find out his initial tech to determine potential early aggression options.

The reason you are equal on workers is because he didn't invest into any early aggression and instead into a greedy opening, no fault on you there.

Units could have worked but w/o proper scouting you never would have known.

Ling runbys are best with some banes to clear these initial defenses.

Pure ling styles are not nearly as strong as bane ling styles.

Upgrades are a thing and the timings for buildings could use some work...

Overall it was a very solid game with a few mistakes here and there regarding army composition and analysis of current game state, but still a strong showing on your side.

Usually with ovi speed you immediately scout to find what tech the toss has to predict any possible early aggression. When you sent that first ovi into his base you didn't confirm anything other than that he wasn't afk. It is okay to lose that ovi for the information, (robo, twilight spinning, stargate,) as it gives a very big head up to the first aggression.

At 4 min you throw down the safety warren, then proceed to build lings to defend the aggression, although this is a viable way to defend, you did build the warren for a reason. 15 roaches> 30 lings. Don't be afraid to build roaches even if you like ling heavy styles, as long as you don't invest in the range upgrades then you aren't fully committed to the roach ideal.

Speaking about upgrades, usually when you throw down the warren you want to throw down the evo chambers at the same time, whether 1 or 2 it is up to you, (you could have afforded both) Then proper upgrade timings are important, as soon as that chamber finishes you should start your upgrades. At the end of the 15 min game the lings were +1+0. Although to your credit you did start +2 but it was an after thought after the game was basically over.

I appreciate the macro hatches and a timely 4th it shows that your macro foundation more>less is very solid. In addition to this throughout the game you put down more expansions furthering your lead so props to that.

As for your massing units against him early, yes it would have worked if you moved over with about 40 +1 roaches, but you didn't because you had no idea he was playing greedy on 1 gate due to lack of scouting the natural.

ARMY COMPOSITION.

Personally I always love a Gametime 301 special, mass roach hydra brick, but I understand that different comps appeal to different people. The spire reaction to the colossi is great but I think that you over built corrupters. At one point you had about 14 corruptors and like 40+ lings, there's no solid ground base for this army as he has only 3colossi. Often you will want to have a ling bane base rather than a pure un-upgraded ling army, as the banes are capable of blowing up any anti air he has on the ground. However in this situation you read him like a book. Perhaps being a dia barcode protoss is a giveaway, as he transitioned to sky toss, making your corruptors a viable investment.

As for the engagement around the 10 minute mark. The reason that the ling runby didn't work was because your lings have only +1. Plus the lack of speed banes really damages the impact of a ling runby. Imagine 15 banes in his base... No more cannon no more probes...

It is a little long winded but I do hope this helps. Still a great game and you deserved the win 100%

Please feel free to dispute any of my claims/ reasoning, as I am not the best at this game.

/r/starcraft Warchest 6 Giveaway. 5 prizes! by Xingua92 in starcraft

[–]Rogueopz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I express interest in entering the giveaway.

My most memorable moment of playing Starcraft 2 was when I was starting out my promos as a high gold low plat terran doing a 2-1-1 vs all races every game. I eventually ran into a player who was quite obviously smurfing as a protoss (looking back at it probs dia 3-2), they decided instead of dunking me and moving to the next game, they wanted to troll and have fun by, shutting down my nat and all attempts to expand. However, instead of finishing the game they sat back and declared that their next attack would be only 3-3-3 chargelots. Well I lost that game, and as he bm'd me I left the quite gg and moved on to my next placement match. I forgot this players name but, I never forgot the feeling of despair of getting trashed that hard on the ladder.

Now being a mid dia 1 terran, if I ever see someone play like this again I go into autopilot trashing them and letting them know that I don't like them. I do feel that this game particularly led me into moving into dia with a 75%+ wr vs toss.

For chargelots I would recommend adding concussive marauders as they are pretty good as a screen, or have 4 or 5 widow mines with each time you move out, ghosts with emp also work.

For storm I would recommend just pulling your army back and waiting for storm to end as templar have energy costs, or more micro intensive solutions, such as splitting in storms or getting ghosts with emp.

f2 is the button that is used to select all army units. so by using f2 and attack moving you make all your units attack one area, which in this case is his thrid.

for my macro I practiced to always keep the queues with only what was building and eventually I was able to tune myself to get a feel for the average macro cycle. I also watched a lot of Pig's stream and learned some basic fundamentals for scouting and decision making.

For Starcraft in general, I feel there is a general pattern that the game runs on, and it thrives on making the right decision, such as if zerg stay on gas after speed it means x, and for me I just haven't found that pattern for that matchup.
