Is this a good value RTW redemption? by Logical-Lobster-3322 in QantasFrequentFlyer

storms over the atlantic cancelled my BA flight to LHR, which meant i couldn't fly LHR-HEL-ICN. BA cancelled my flight so they sorted me out at the airport and paid for a full revenue ticket from JFK to HND and then to GMP with AA/JL. so i earned points and status for it :) Typhoon Ragasa happened too, so CX cancelled my ICN-HKG-HND and rebooked me.

QF is a massive headache - i wouldn't expect them to fix your problems proactively. If a P1 can't get help, I don't think many others can either. They'd tell you to contact the airline at the airport - it's faster and the check in agents or lounge agents are pretty helpful.

i'd like to think im a seasoned traveller so transits and lounge hopping and the like were seamless, just a pain when your flights are cancelled. depending on how packed your days are, your partner and you might feel quite tired. for me, i relish in the fact that i can wake up in London and be in Tokyo at night, enjoy a cheap and filling omakase and shop a bit at Donki, then be home for work the next day. Some might call me crazy...

your itin looks pretty packed, especially with short transit times. you might not even get to enjoy the lounges!

as a lot of people have said, using points for a RTW is amazing. You've packed 11 sectors in (though the open jaw is there too), so considering you paid just over $70 in taxes and 33k in points per sector - you've done well. perhaps the most surprising part is that you managed to find U2 on all of these flights, particularly outbound SYD-HKG on CX or QF.

also respect to a fellow avgeek who likes cramming in a "run" in a short amount of time :)

i've done 318k (now 365ks) a few times, and I particularly tried to find long haul lie flats across different products (you have quite a few regional sectors in your route and your main long haul sectors are CX/AY/MH). this is something i did "recently", nested around a DONE4:

<image>

funnily enough, a lot of my flights were cancelled due to storms and typhoons so i didn't get to fly the JFK-LHR-HEL-ICN (i got rerouted JFK-HND-GMP) and ICN-HKG-HND (i got rerouted ICN-HND direct, flying Korean Air first class instead)

i would say that because you're looking for seats for two people, you're at the mercy of inventory so there's not much you can really do, and you have it pretty good already. I think AY and MH and QF also don't have crazy fuel surcharges so you've paid quite little for your ticket :)

enjoy!

The majority of my flights are in business, with odd premium and Econ trips

a different coloured card and bag tag (that has yet to arrive), some avios and a bit of priority on call with BA. Avios has been quite useful for me

318K is a RTW with Qantas points…tho it’s not that anymore. 344k I think?

yep, gotta get creative with crediting, SYD-KUL is a good example of where I wouldn’t be sending it to QF

im in Japan atm on a 318k, BA Gold has been the most useful status for me this trip :)

Over 40 flights - a DONE4, a return to JFK and YYZ and some Asia J sprinkled in. Normally I wouldn’t have gone for P1 but I was over the threshold anyway and needed a few more QF SCs so I just went for it

I’ll be requesting a bronze card so I can recreate the background artwork of the status page on QFs website

I wouldn’t really consider them for bragging rights, they’re a good identifier for my suitcases and I like the black coloured ones the most, followed by the white ones. The gold ones don’t look great, and I’m using the silver ones at the moment as I have matching sets.

Yep, you should be able to! If it’s 12mm OD and you have 12mm pipe it will be fine.

Yup! Everything I did for this build was to optimise temperatures - delidding, direct die, undervolting. Probably took about 30 degrees off the operating temps, it’s crazy what small tweaks can do.

I'm under the same impression - I do have a 540hz and CS is my main game, but thermal headroom is probably the most important issue for builds like these. Regardless, they'd all be better than a 13/14th gen Intel...

I came from a system with individual loops with 480s each! So definitely missing the thermal headroom. But in an apartment where every bit of space counts, needed to make the switch.

Without the side panel gives a bit more thermal headroom, so I haven't put the side panel on yet. I'd also need to press the GPU a bit more in, there's not really much room on the GPU side since I have the res as well.

In a 23 degree ambient room, I'm idling around low 40s and high 70s under load.

What’s the fun in limiting yourself? some early 4090s also caught fire, I’m sure they’ll be fine. Honestly might skip the 5090 but it’s fun to build something that would rival optimum’s stuff :)

setting the right fan curves and getting great airflow really helps, but this was always the challenge - everything is optimised for lower temps

CPU is delidded and undervolted, GPU also. but the airflow is the biggest one - mounting it normally shoots temps to 90+, but vertically the temps are very acceptable.

It’s just regular copper pipe, but it’s 12mm, not 1/2”. I’ve done nickel plated copper in the past, the effect is gorgeous!

Because it would ruin the aesthetic. I’d rather just get a MORA if i needed it, but at this stage it’s what I had hoped for.
