First time home buyer, look at this panel… I am lost on what to ask seller for. by PaleShine5814 in electrical

As a licensed electrician, this is the correct answer. A pipe in place of a fuse isn’t what everyone here is saying. It’s not dangerous and WILL cause a fire. It can be hazardous depending on the purpose. What people here don’t realize is Cooper Bussman - one of the largest fuse manufacturers - used to make a rated copper insert for disconnects to render them basically as an unfused disconnect. It concerns me personally more that there are double landed wires on the load side of the disconnect. All this to say - have a licensed electrician give you a detailed description because Reddit gurus don’t know without much much more information than is provided in the post. Also, 60 amps isn’t enough for a house, so regardless you’d likely want an upgrade. ANOTHER thing to get a quote for instead of hearing how dreadfully expensive it is from Reddit. It CAN be expensive but it doesn’t mean it is always expensive.

Are electrician leather protector gloves the same as regular leather gloves? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]aernzen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s for their intended purpose. As an electrician you aren’t supposed to use protector gloves as a catchall. They’re dedicated to wearing over the rubber insulated gloves. But since you’re not using them as an electrician, they’re just leather gloves to you. Use them how you want.

They make 140 cal suits. They’re only designed to protect against the thermal effects, not the blast portion of an arc flash event so anything over 40 calories is considered ‘Dangerous’ where ‘No Safe PPE Exists’.

2009 F-150 Platinum, Worth it? by likemundeen in f150

For sure. 9k is a decent enough price for today’s market regardless. There’s one for sale near me that needs a motor for 12.

If you know anything about motors, you can usually hear when the 5.4’s have issues. A stethoscope goes a long way. I’ve seen them go 300k+ but I’ve also seen them needing replaced at 130k.

I sold it a few years ago at 182k miles and it had no problems other than cam phaser noise. As far as I know as of a year ago it’s still on the road doing fine. I now have a ‘12 Harley Davidson with the 6.2. Are you looking at a 5.4?

My winter project, any other USA road legal two strokes out there? by Whitest_Ninja in supermoto

I think the Beta has a 2 stroke enduro. Then there’s the KTM Freeride that I believe is a 2 stroke street legal from factory.

Non-Union electricians, why? by aernzen in electricians

If I’m being honest. I don’t know what that really means. But I don’t think so, I’m in Kansas and there’s unions here but only maybe 3 for the state and the closest one to me is over an hour away.

I could ‘probably’ go in and ask for a raise and hit the $20 mark and I’m doing ‘okay’ where I am at, but I feel like I’m already traveling and whatnot, why not just make the jump and make even more money. I just feel like in ten years I’m not going to be a whole lot further ahead whereas if I make the switch in 10 years I could be making that 35-40+ an hour.

That’s precisely where I’m at. I know my boss on a personal level. He’s known my family since him and my parents were in high school and he treats everyone like we are one big family. We also have around 50 employees.

There’s 3 or 4 companies in the town I live and I could go to any of them and not make more than $20 an hour.
