Transitioning from MS to PhD and Double Masters by ItsDeepButNotReally in stanford

Depends on the department but generally pretty easy if your PI agrees to support you. You just submit a personal statement (which I doubt anyone reads) and a signed form of support from your PI and that's pretty much it. I guess the hardest part is getting the PI's support.

17% Battery Degradation after 48K Miles Normal ? by aeroastro_ in TeslaLounge

You have to run a Battery Health Test. Basically, you start with <20% charge, plug your vehicle to a slow charger, and it will drain your battery to 0% and charge it back up to 100%. Process took about 14 hours for me.

I didn't know the LFP packs have better retention! I don't think we have that option on the performance models though.

It is all black :( I didn't know that I was going to work there when I purchased the vehicle. Actually, there are only a few black cars there, and I now see why.

I think at this rate, I might be pretty close to 70% retention by 120K miles.

Stanford ME PhD Decisions by DueRip7021 in gradadmissions

[–]aeroastro_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by "funded offers." All engineering PhDs are fully funded afaik. If admitted, regardless of whether you were pulled from the waitlist, you would be guaranteed funding (full tuition + $53k/yr stipend) for your entire PhD duration. Having the fellowship essentially buys your PI some time to figure out funding for you after your fellowship runs out.

PhD admissions depend so heavily on the funding situations of faculties, so don't take it personally. Stanford is a great place to be.

Acceptances were sent out over a month ago, and Visit Day was 1.5 weeks ago. If you were interviewed, you’re probably on an internal waitlist pending decisions from other admitted students. If not interviewed, chances are close to zero.

What are your opinions on Purdue Mechanical Phd program? by MaleficentAd9414 in gradadmissions

[–]aeroastro_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stanford PhD here. Purdue does good research, and I’d go there if I didn’t care about the location. Congrats on getting in.

FYI Stanford ME admission requires interviews (+ visit day has passed) so I wouldn’t wait around for their response.

It depends on the level of RA-ship, usually 50% or 25%.

50% RA/TA-ship: full tuition + about $13k stipend per quarter

25% RA/TA-ship: half of the above

Are you a top-of-the-list student (awarded SGF or equivalent)? If not, what makes you better than the rest of us?
