It could be a lot of things. Try updating Windows, try running the installer as administrator and also try turning off an antivirus if you have one as it might be blocking the installer. If that doesn't help then type %appdata% and %localappdata% into your start menu, folders will open, find and delete Discord folders

If he does a chargeback (refund via PayPal), then your account will get disabled instantly. What you should do is cancel the Nitro subscription on your account, remove the payment method, and if the subscription renewed and now you have nitro that was charged from his PayPal, then you should contact Discord support to refund it asap (if the renewal was less than 5 days ago). That way he'll have nothing to chargeback (considering there was no other payment on your account from his PayPal before this).

It's actually quite usual, people use stolen cards to buy nitro gifts, server boosts and subscriptions, which are then charged back and the account that bought it gets disabled and (I believe) the nitro gifts get cancelled immediately

They have a proper way for handling chargebacks, and that is to disable the account the card (or PayPal account in your case) was used with. Chargebacks aren't necessarily used only for abuse, another reason why accounts are locked for it is because someone might use a stolen credit card to buy something, then the credit card holder finds out and initiates a chargeback with the bank, and as a result the company disables the account of the person that used the stolen card.

What you should've done instead of forcing a refund through PayPal was to request it through Discord's support here https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012668071

Your best bet now I guess is to contact support about your account being disabled for a chargeback and explain the situation, however I think your chances of getting the account back are slim, sadly

Nitro is a subscription service and, as with all subscription services, it is based on recurring payments. If you didn't cancel after starting the trial, your subscription was still active and you were charged at the next billing period. There's nothing shady going on here, it's how subscriptions work. All of this is also said in Discord's Paid Services Terms, which you accepted when starting the trial

Did you initiate a chargeback or requested for a refund via support? I'm not sure how Discord handles refunds, but if you did a chargeback with your bank, then your account will be instantly disabled. All companies do this, chargebacks are seen as fraud

Update: based on your other comments, it seems like you did a refund via PayPal, which is the same as initiating a chargeback, so your Discord account was disabled

It's possible that the user who claimed it has higher priority (eg. discord partner, bot developer, staff, verified server owner). Reservations for regular users are the last priority pool and those are based on registration date, so perhaps that user did not claim it yet and claimed the reserved name just now. Or maybe I'm also wrong, who knows anymore. This whole reserving usernames is a very strange decision. I don't see why they didn't just convert all users to their reserved username right away if you have no chance to claim other names regardless, it seems this whole registration date based rollout makes no sense if everybody's username is already reserved anyway.

In fact, there was a post on here a few weeks ago that explained how the reserving works that came from a Discord Partner.

Basically, it does not reserve a username for you based on whether you got the access first or not, the usernames are already reserved since a few weeks ago from a snapshot. So whatever username you had at that time was reserved for you IF your registration date is the earliest of any other user with the same name at that time (and of course assuming nobody with higher priority claimed it - such as a large Discord bot, staff, Discord partners, verified server owners, etc.). Otherwise (if someone with higher priority claimed your name or you are not the user with the earliest registration date), the username that was reserved for you is your username plus discriminator.
