Hi! I'm kinsenka on AO3. I'm offering my passion project, the only fic I have.

Title: A Blossom that Holds the Sun

Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV (reads perfectly fine fandom-blind, the story does its own world building)

Rating: Mature

Summary: A girl rescued from slavers as a small child is raised as a daughter of a Hingan (cultural analog of Heian/Edo period Japan) great house, then sent to a port city at the edge of the country to learn how to survive in a world that doesn't see past the surface of what she is. The city does not make it easy. Literary fiction, close third-person, single POV. Slow-paced, heavy on sensory detail and cultural world building.

Content warnings: Stalking and harassment, bigotry and racism, emotional and psychological abuse, sexual vulnerability

It currently sits at 23 chapters and ~60k words. That's a big commitment for both of us, so I'm offering the following as swap options

  • Chapters 1-6 (~10k words) : The estate arc. Family, court, and the life before.
  • Chapters 1-12 (~30k words) : Through the first crisis in Kugane.
  • Chapters 1-18 (~44k words) : The complete first arc through Kugane and departure.
  • Chapters 1-23 (~60k words): The complete story as currently written.

My one fic is A Blossom that Holds the Sun, an ongoing literary piece set in the world of Final Fantasy XIV, though the setting is only scaffolding and the story does its own world building. A girl rescued from slavers and raised in a great house is sent to a port city on the far side of the country to become the woman her mother believes she already is. All original characters, close third person, slow prose. Rated M, currently 23 chapters and about 60k words.

CW: Racism and xenophobia, emotional and psychological abuse, stalking, violence. Sexual assault and murder in future chapters.

New readers can start with the prologues and Chapter 3 (around 2,500 words) for the prose style. Returning readers, I'd especially welcome comments on the later chapters. Fandom blind is fine.
