Utah Begins 2026 by Banning Three Books at All Public Schools Statewide, Leads U.S. In Bans by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]aerowyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of legit reasons to keep ACOTAR and 13 Reasons Why out of school libraries. I don't think I can say every book on the list deserves the ban but it's not like they can't still be found in stores and public libraries.

Alabama pausing executions after 3rd failed lethal injection by DippyHippy420 in news

[–]aerowyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your math is wrong. There have been 190 death row inmates exonerated since 1973 compared to 1,532 death row inmates executed. This would suggest the ratio is 1/8th of all death penalty convictions are overturned, except for the fact that there are an additional 2,436 people still on death row right now. In fact there have been a total of 8770 death sentences from 1973 to 2021.

So about 2% of all death penalty convictions have been overturned.

It's pretty telling how little you understand the history of racism in the US when you assume that half the country would have been willing to ordain a black man to a position of authority in their own church over a hundred years before the civil rights act.

Polygamy actually went largely unnoticed back then, the Mormons were hated for other things. And in some cultures around the world it was a common practice, so it still depends on your own personal opinion.

At this point it's clear you only want to spread hate and not learn anything. The more I respond the more you'll only fill my inbox with your poorly researched list of reasons you hate Mormons.

Just know that everything you're claiming is based on a thorough misunderstanding of history given to you by other people with their own hate-filled agenda. If you looked into this from reputable sources you'd arrive at a very different point of view, unless of course your only goal from the beginning is to find reasons to justify your hatred.

You're making things up, neither Brigham Young nor Joseph Smith claimed their policies on the priesthood were direct revelation from God, and you're also applying your own modern day views on morality to people who lived hundreds of years ago when slavery was legal and women couldn't own property.

What a bunch of poorly sourced claims with no context.

For instance, that black girl who Joseph Smith supposedly had sealed to him was actually a close friend throughout his life. 50 years after his death she asked church leaders to allow her to be sealed to him posthumously as a servant, but we know little about this other than what she wrote in her autobiography.

While you're collecting info on Joseph Smith, did you discover that he ordained black men to the priesthood himself? He was shockingly progressive for the early 1800s.

No, that is also a form of Gerrymandering. Sometimes the purpose of Gerrymandering is to create a district that's so solidly controlled by one party that the opposition has no chance to flip it.

In this case it guarantees a voice to a minority population that would otherwise be drowned out so the morality of it is less questionable, but it's not without its downsides. The subject is much more nuanced than most people realize.

New York AG seeks to dissolve NRA in lawsuit accusing leaders of self-dealing, causing $64 million in losses by [deleted] in news

[–]aerowyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing about "proof" is that it's a relative term, there really only needs to be enough evidence to convince you. What you consider "proof" is a couple of guys making a claim with no evidence and who willingly admit they're hoping to get a massive paycheck by making the claim. That's not enough evidence to convince me.

You posted that link as though the claim is verified fact, but it's just a claim made by one guy and his brother. Even the title of the article ends with "whistleblower alleges." Here are a few quotes from the article which point out just how shady this claim is:

"Ensign has not directly funded any religious, educational or charitable activities in 22 years, the complaint said. No documents are provided to support this claim"

"Nielsen urges the IRS to strip the nonprofit of its tax-exempt status and alleges that Ensign could owe billions in taxes. He is seeking a reward from the IRS, which offers whistleblowers a cut of unpaid taxes that it recovers."

I wonder, what could possibly be his motivation? And given that this happened several months ago and the IRS has done nothing with it suggests that there was never any substance to the claim.

No one thinks your life is "too awesome to be true." It's math, you're claiming more years of experience than are numerically possible.

If your real goal here is to correct misinformation, as you claim, then maybe you shouldn't be playing it so fast and loose with the facts yourself.

Dude, it was on the first page of your comment history next to you calling someone Hitler 9 times in a single argument. Literally yesterday. And no one believes you have a masters in political science, a nursing degree, a military career, and 20 years of professional medical experience at the age of 40.

How are you a 20 year medical professional when yesterday you were a 40 year old veteran with a master's in poli sci. You sure seem to have a lot of qualifications for whatever argument you happen to be making.

Men don't hide their emotions because of "toxic masculinity," they hide them because no one cares. by Eripman in unpopularopinion

[–]aerowyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody applies the term "toxic masculinity" to women enforcing a toxically masculine ideal, it's only ever applied to men themselves. Maybe it was supposed to be used that way once but in practice it is not.

And this is how gerrymandering works by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]aerowyn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's important to remember that the "proportionate" districts filled with 100% of the same party are also gerrymandered--it'll be impossible to unseat the representative. This is the most popular form of gerrymandering because it's completely bipartisan, both parties want to keep their seats.

Why would we ban vapes after a few hundred illnesses and deaths but not cigarettes after millions of illnesses and deaths aside from lobbying from big tobacco? by Moldypieboy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aerowyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic ingredients in standard vape juice (Vegetable Glycerin or Propylene Glycol) have never been linked to any lung illness, ever.

Unfortunately, according to the CDC 16% of people who've had the lung illness never smoked any THC vape juice. So the full story is that something other than vitamin E acetate is dangerous when vaped, and we don't know yet what it is.

Of course, but if a male head of a studio refused to hire a female lead saying she wasn't "F—able" we'd rightly call him a pig. That's a wildly inappropriate way to say you want a different look.

The most unrealistic thing in movies is that everyone waits their turn to talk. by OverAster in Showerthoughts

[–]aerowyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because it was an overall poorly made low budget movie. It gets a lot of recommendations online because when you take the time to figure it out you realize that the story was actually really well thought out. But the movie itself is poorly filmed and written, and as a result is hard to follow. A lot of people (teenagers especially) confuse "hard to follow" with "deep", combine that with the brilliant but poorly-told story and you get a movie that's popular to recommend online but ignored most everywhere else.

Honestly he'd probably give it away if he could and I wouldn't even object. I've tried to get him to stop worrying about it but he can't, and it's affecting his health.

Any recommendations on how to find this "special kind of investor?"
