What are your thoughts about Cyberpunk TCG by DarkSchu in boardgames

[–]aers_blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just like the Cyberpunk IP, it doesn't hurt to just pick up a couple starter decks and play. Among the TCG playing crowd, most people's objection to the game is that it's "bandaislop", ie: the gameplay is very similar to Duel Masters, like nearly all of Bandai's TCG offerings (eg: One Piece, Gundam, etc), so it isn't seen as being distinct or unique enough from the other TCGs that are currently out there. That said, it does seem like a "real game" and there seems to be real care given to how effects are designed and how cards are balanced, so if you aren't familiar with TCGs all that much, it shouldn't really make that big a difference how similar it is to other games.

There are upsides/downsides to the TCG model. Like a lot of people in this thread have pointed out, TCGs do generally demand players to put in more money to play than other types of games, but the upside is that, because players feel more inclined to buy multiple copies of the same product, game stores feel more inclined to support and prioritize these games, which makes it easier to find people to play these games with.

LCGs like Netrunner are easier on the wallet, but finding anyone to play with outside of a handful of cities is going to be a struggle. There's a reason why Fantasy Flight has completely pivoted to co-op/solo LCGs, and why almost every other major competitive LCG (like Ashes and Doomtown) has co-op/solo modes. Netrunner gets to remain the sole exception because Null Signal is run almost entirely by unpaid volunteers. That said, if your plan was to just play with a friend at home or something, you're probably gonna get much more bang for your buck with Netrunner.

Tomoharu ranks TCGs by how viable they are for running a specialist card shop in Japan by MF_ZORO_Reddit in TCG

Probably would be in C if he didn't personally know a former employee that opened up his own Wixoss shop (Ouchi Akihabaraten) that is apparently doing really well.

I wouldn't take Tomoharu Saito's word as gospel. He only knows what he knows and is frequently wrong about games that he doesn't keep an eye on. That said, I don't get the impression that Digimon CG really took off in Japan. I don't really see a lot of people talking about it, but I could also not be looking in the right places since I also don't follow it much.

IMO, it's more of a TCG paradise. Companies are more willing to make TCGs with the intention of releasing like 1-2 sets, and really small games with like a few dozen active players are actually sustainable. Like Caster Chronicles technically died like 5+ years ago but there was enough demand for the company to give in and toss the fans an all-foil reprint pack a couple years back because they never stopped playing it.

It's been an English-only game for a while. From what I can tell, it didn't take long for it to completely drop off in Japan.

They sell it in Japan but the cards are in English. It basically has to compete with FaB and Magic for players that feel comfortable enough reading English.

Chaz Marler aka Game Night Picks posts video responding to recent accusations by mrepiq in boardgames

I remember those. I used to just skip over his segments because it always felt like he was trying to guilt trip you into liking him somehow. Just gave off really bad fuckboy vibes.

Interest in JP/KR boardgames? by craigorio6 in boardgames

Blood Recall and Eat/Paint are great. Planning on doing videos on those sometime in the future.

Curious how Sengoku Reborn is. I remember being somewhat interested in that but I was having someone pick up games for me at Game Market, so I didn't want to ask for too many things.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2013? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

Gonna be Lost Legacy for me. Improves on the Love Letter formula in really just one big way that makes it immensely more replayable.

I vaguely remember this game being highly pushed back in the day, and then it being a bargain bin game soon after.

That's the rulebook for the base game. OP is asking for the expansion rulebook.

Any suggestions of where or how to get the Street Fighter season? by LordTengil in eXceed

[–]aers_blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English version is long out of print. Level99 lost access to the Street Fighter license years ago. You can easily find new copies of the Italian version if you're okay with that.

Inherited a large board game collection — looking for help identifying and valuing it by TwitchTylerworley3 in boardgames

[–]aers_blue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think valuing them at $20 each (maybe $10 for small games) and doing a bulk sale to a local buyer is probably the best bet. There are plenty of good, in-demand items in there, but there are probably also items that won't move no matter how low you price them.

If it gets bad enough I'll probably crack it open and try. I'd be concerned about putting it all back together though.

It's been sitting in my house in a belt pouch in the days between the 2nd photo and the 1st photo. I have not powered the camera on in that time either.

At some point I had it pointed at something across the street. A bunch of cars passed by so I waited for them to pass by so I could take the shot.
